About me

If you're considering therapy, it's likely that you're finding life difficult. Maybe you're going through loss or change or perhaps you'd like your life to be different but feel stuck and unsure how to move forward. Perhaps you're realising that the ways you are trying to cope right now are counter-productive and harmful and you sense there may be a different way that is more aligned with your authentic self and potential.

Therapy gives you time to focus on yourself and support to reflect on your life. It's a space where you're free to express how you feel, however that is, without fear of judgement or worry about burdening others in your life.

I am down to earth and direct; I'm not a blank screen and we won't sit in silence! I offer a warm, compassionate and collaborative approach and will engage with you in a natural and relaxed way. I am passionate about supporting people to uncover their own unique path and am endlessly inspired by human beings' ability to overcome obstacles, move through pain, and to lead fulfilling and authentic lives.

I offer short and long-term therapy to adults, 18 and over in my comfortable therapy room in Southampton and online. I have worked supporting through struggle and change for over 30 years in charities, universities and in private practice. I work with all aspects of the person - mind, body, emotions, imagination and creativity. I work with honesty and integrity and my commitment to equality and social justice is key to and underpins my work.

Training, qualifications & experience

I began working with people experiencing difficulty and distress during my 1st degree in the early 90s as a Samaritans volunteer. This led on to my Foundation training in Person Centred Counselling. I have worked in charities supporting survivors of abuse and people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, alongside a private counselling practice since the mid-90s. I completed my Postgraduate Training in Psychosynthesis in 2006.  I hold a diploma in Transpersonal and Integrative Supervision and also work as a supervisor to both training and experienced counsellors and therapists.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
