About me

I am a Psychotherapist and Business Coach, working with clients over Zoom, throughout the UK and beyond.

I focus on chronic mental health including addiction, trauma and complex trauma.

I also help clients navigate the ‘meaning crisis’, the ‘meta crisis’ and global instability.

I am fully trained and experienced in four psychotherapeutic approaches, and tailor treatment to each client’s needs and goals.

Person‑centred therapy: I create a warm, respectful, non‑judgemental space where empathy and authenticity help you feel understood and able to explore change.

Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT): I use evidence‑based techniques to help you identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

Creative Hypnotherapy: I work with your imagination and focused relaxation to support new ways of thinking and feeling.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing): I offer a structured, trauma‑focused method to help process distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact.

Addiction and recovery: my understanding is informed by long‑term participation in 12‑Step and Buddhist Recovery groups, which I integrate respectfully, if helpful.

Neuroscience‑informed option: I partner with Flow Neuroscience to offer clinician‑led tDCS (gentle transcranial electrical stimulation) as an adjunct for some clients with Major Depressive Disorder.

Current Interests and focus: I am interested in the politics of mind, connecting spiritual traditions with contemporary psychotherapy, and the links between Western esotericism and modern psychology.

I am also interested in the ‘search for meaning’ in an increasingly algorithmic and AI generated reality.

As societies face increasing economic and geopolitical instability, I am especially focused on practical strategies to help individuals, families, businesses and communities build resilience and thrive.

I can work with clients with complex issues, including childhood trauma, across longer time frames.

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to being a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist, I am also a Chartered Psychologist and a sociologist.  This means I bring a broad range of professional knowledge to my work with clients.

I am training in Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Creative Hypnotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.

Additional training: I have training and/or experience in Schema Therapy, Gestalt Psychotherapy, NLP coaching, treatment resistant depression and mindfulness and meditation (I have also authored a short book on meditation and mental health).

Work Experience:  I have worked across sectors, as a trainee insurance underwriter; counselling and interpersonal communication skills trainer; psychology lecturer; sociologist at a Silicon Valley systems research laboratory; BA Health Studies course leader; trainee therapist in an NHS psychiatric day unit; massage and sports-injury therapist; CEO of an HIV charity; clinical supervisor; regional radio contributor; writer; and even had a go at stand‑up comedy!

I did not always enjoy or excel in every role, but each experience deepened my commitment to helping people. Since 1995 I have worked as a psychotherapist and business coach in private practice.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

As I draw from a wide range of training and experience, I tailor my approach to the needs of each individual client. This doesn’t make me perfect, or fallible, but it does mean I have the flexibility to work across different presenting issues with a range of techniques or approaches. This is ideal for clients with complex needs working over longer time frames.

I undertake to work in a trauma informed way with every client. As my career has progressed, it has become obvious from the research, that trauma lay at the root of much of the suffering and addictions clients experience. EMDR has established itself as a useful treatment for some people, and this, in conjunction with other trauma informed practices, means that we now have more effective options to help clients with trauma than we did at the start of my career.

My business coaching goes beyond accountability: I teach knowledge and skills about how teams and organisations operate. I help you increase self‑awareness around your business systems and relationships and show you how to leverage that awareness for competitive advantage.

Whatever you feel you need, and even if you don’t know what ‘help’ might look like right now, I’m happy to meet for a free initial consultation to discuss your options.
