About me

Introduction

Welcome. My name's Paisley and I am a Counselling Psychologist offering online therapy, with availability to see new clients now. Please click above to book a free 20-minute introductory call.

Our therapy sessions can involve practical tools to help you feel more content. It can involve understanding feelings that you can’t quite put into words yet, untangling a dilemma you have been carrying for a long time, or figuring out together how to make changes in your relationships. I invite clients to come as their authentic selves. In some of the best therapy encounters I have experienced, we have been able to work through the difficult things that trouble you, while also sharing moments of meaningful connection (perhaps a shared laugh, or an ‘aha!’ moment when we figure something out).

I find it most engaging to get to know unique individuals, rather than only working with certain difficulties, so please get in touch and we can see if I am a suitable person to help you. Some areas that I find especially engaging are:

  • Complex trauma, PTSD, or trauma in the context of relationships/family
  • Obsessions / compulsions (OCD)
  • Identity, such as living with neurodiversity, reflecting on gender, or coping with societal issues

How I work

My Counselling Psychology training involved cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic ideas. When we become connected, I will hear what you would like to be different in your life. For example, you may want to reduce anxiety, improve your relationships, process trauma, or explore questions about belonging, meaning and your place in the world. Collaboratively, we can decide the best way of working together. You can trust that I will always hold in mind the ideal therapy ‘recipe’ for you, to help you reach your goals.

You can find out more about how I work on my website: https://soulcompanypsychology.co.uk/.

Who I am

I know it can feel hard to choose a therapist and I view the relationship in therapy as essential. For you to have a sense of who I am, I have been passionate about psychology for as long as I can remember and if my friends had to describe my stance as a psychologist, I’d like to think it would be: gentle, enthusiastic, and critical of the status quo! Beyond the psychological world, I adore dogs (long dogs and little dogs especially), alternative fashion, and going to the cinema. Professionally, I balance working in the NHS, lecturing in a university, and my private practice here.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Training

I have a background in person-centred therapy, which emphasises being accepting, genuine, and empathetic. I learnt relational psychodynamic practice and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) as part of my doctorate. As I am trained in several approaches, I can draw upon multiple techniques to help you overcome your difficulties.

On my website you can read more about how I use each model of therapy: https://soulcompanypsychology.co.uk/about/. No matter which techniques we use, the foundation of our therapy will be a trusting relationship, allowing us to unpick and resolve your difficulties, supporting you towards healing.

  • I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (PYL047946).
  • I hold a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (University of the West of England). My doctorate involved over 450 hours of supervised therapy practice.
  • Level 4 Counselling Skills Certificate (Person-Centered and Psychodynamic) - University of the West of England
  • BSc Psychology Degree - achieving highest overall marks of the course and best dissertation (University of the West of England)

My Experience

I have supported people to cope with life changes, physical health difficulties, diagnosed mental health conditions, relationship dilemmas, and more. The following settings and clients within them have made me into the professional I am today:

  • NHS - Secondary Care Community; Psychiatric Rehabilitation; Talking Therapies; Long Term Health Conditions; Brain Injury; Neuromuscular Conditions

  • Helpline Work
  • University Work (Pastoral, Supervisory, and Research Support)
