About me

Hi, I’m Nicola - a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist based in Paisley. While my main approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I also draw on other therapeutic approaches to make sure sessions are tailored to your needs.

I believe that real change starts with understanding - those moments of insight where things start to make sense, and you begin to see a way forward. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you understand your experiences, recognise patterns, and find practical steps that feel doable and genuine.

My work includes domestic abuse recovery, baby loss support, anxiety, low mood, and self-esteem difficulties. Experiences like these can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, unsure where to start, or simply exhausted from holding everything together.

Counselling with me offers a space where you can pause, be yourself, and begin putting things back together at your own pace.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), working in line with their ethical framework.

Alongside my private practice in Paisley in Glasgow, I manage a counselling centre where I support student counsellors in gaining their placement hours, oversee clinical assessments and risk management, and deliver regular therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.

I specialise in working with women recovering from the effects of domestic abuse, helping them rebuild confidence, self-esteem, and trust in themselves and others. This work has deepened my understanding of trauma and the importance of creating a therapeutic space that feels safe, empowering, and free of judgment.

My background includes working within community wellbeing services, offering both short-term structured therapy and longer-term emotional support. These experiences have shaped my belief that therapy should be both practical and compassionate - helping clients gain insight while developing tools that make day to day life feel more manageable.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I know that starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve spent a long time putting other people’s needs before your own. My aim is to make it as simple and human as possible.

If you’re still unsure, I’m happy to offer a brief chat before booking so you can get a sense of how I work and what to expect from sessions. There’s no obligation - just space to ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit.
