About me

Nayer Ravandi

Existential Psychotherapist and Clinical supervisor BSC, MA, UPCA, UKCP, PG Dip, BPS

At some point in time we all can feel our lives have be come out of control, that we have lost our sense of direction. This can lead to feelings of helplessness, anger, anxiety, depression, loss and many other unpleasant feelings. Psychotherapy and counselling enables you to explore and understand issues you are facing. Through psychotherapy you will learn to make your choices and decisions and take control of your life.

About Me
As an Existential Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor, I bring a depth-oriented approach to my work with clients. With a foundation in existential philosophy, I create a reflective space where we can explore your lived experiences and the challenges you face within the broader context of human existence.

My Approach
I believe that in a safe environment, you can explore and understand the issues you are facing. Through psychotherapy, you will learn to make your choices and decisions and take control of your life. Psychotherapy aims to give you an opportunity to work towards a satisfying and meaningful life.

I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the foundation for successful outcomes. This relationship provides a safe and supportive environment where you can openly express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns without fear of judgment.

While I am primarily an existential psychotherapist, I use an integrative approach to meet each client's unique needs:

  • Embodiment Approach: I bring awareness to breath, body sensations, and movement as a way to access feelings and unconscious processes. Sometimes feelings are hard to name, and tuning into your body can provide a pathway to deeper understanding.
  • Creative Techniques: I utilize drawing, colors, imagination, and visualizations as ways to help you express emotions that might be difficult to articulate in words.
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT): I encourage clients to develop compassion towards themselves and others, helping to create a nurturing inner voice that promotes empathy, kindness, and self-soothing.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and CBT: For short-term work (6-12 sessions), I employ these approaches to address specific concerns efficiently.

Areas of Specialization

Multi-Cultural and Inclusive Therapy

Cultural awareness covers a broad range of concerns including race, ethnicity, gender, disability, faith, and sexual orientation. Having cultural awareness is key to building cultural connection and reducing cultural conflict. In our work together, I acknowledge how all types of diversity and differences impact your identity and how you relate to yourself, others, and the world. Our sessions provide space to explore and process your experience of being different, and to choose who you want to be and how to create a satisfactory life.

Trauma-Informed Therapy
Trauma is a response to distressing events or situations that make it difficult for a person to cope. It comes in different forms such as abuse, divorce, serious illness, or loss of a loved one. Experiencing or witnessing traumatic events, particularly in childhood, can have devastating consequences. Trauma can affect a person emotionally, physically, and cognitively, and it can change one's personality.
I offer long-term psychotherapy to clients who have experienced trauma and are struggling with building trust and a sense of safety in their relationships with themselves and others. Our work together creates opportunities to explore, understand, and process these experiences and emotions at deeper levels.

Relationship and Couples Therapy
I work with couples and individuals facing relationship challenges, helping to foster more authentic communication and deeper understanding between partners.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety can be described as a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. While everyone experiences anxiety at times, when it becomes overwhelming or persistent, it can significantly affect daily life. In our sessions, we'll explore what's causing your anxiety and develop strategies for managing or overcoming it.

Depression involves persistent feelings of sadness that last for weeks or months rather than just a few days. It can cause a wide range of symptoms including feelings of unhappiness and hopelessness, loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, and physical symptoms like fatigue, sleep disturbances, and physical discomfort. Depression ranges from mild to severe, and in its most severe form can lead to feelings that life is no longer worth living.
