About me

Help-seeking takes courage. I offer a confidential and empathic space to help unpack your experiences and support healing. I would describe my therapeutic style as open, collaborative and genuine.

I adopt an intersectional lens, which means I strive to create an identity-safe environment and consider how systems of power might operate in your life alongside your therapeutic goals. I also recognise that the Eurocentric nature of talking therapies might not suit everyone, and can include practices influenced by the Global South if desired (e.g. mindfulness, art and drama-informed interventions).

While processing psychological pain is important, my work is also informed by positive psychology principles, as I believe understanding what helps you to flourish can equally support your wellbeing.

I have an interest in life cycle transitions, whether related to emerging adulthood, becoming a new parent or adapting to changes in circumstances. I have specialist knowledge in trauma, with a research focus on collective identity trauma (e.g. ongoing discrimination and social inequalities).

I also acknowledge the importance of my own self-awareness for my professional practice and have dedicated over 100 hours to personal therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over six years of experience working in a variety of mental health settings, including NHS, schools, charitable organisations and community interest companies. I offer short-term and long-term therapeutic relationships with individuals, families and groups. I have specialist training with children and adults (from primary age upwards), with a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, cognitive behavioural (including third wave), psychodynamic, somatic, art, drama and systemic modalities.

I am trained to work intergratively, which encourages combining the above listed modalities based on your therapeutic needs and our collaborative formulation.

I appreciate it can be difficult to get a sense of what our therapy might be like based on professional jargon. Overall, I am open to exploring what feels important to you and my training is designed to support you using a range of evidence-based techniques.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
