About me
I am an Aberdonian, thus Scottish, man who has been involved in the caring professions for most of my adult life, many years, as a professional worker with kids, families and adults on their own. I offer face-face counselling in the city centre or online counselling if preferred. All sessions will be weekly for 50 minutes or agreed otherwise. The number of sessions will be agreed between us at the outset and open to review/flexibility.
I am qualified for, and have experience of, using a range of counselling approaches i.e. not limited to one e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but others too. I would explain this pluralistic approach in an initial meeting but basically it means that I believe that clients know themselves best and how best they wish to deal with their personal issues. For example if you did not wish to talk of your upbringing we would not have to.
I have worked with clients with a range of issues: relationship problems, depression, motivation, suicide ideation, performance in education or at work and in families, compulsive behaviours, sexuality, bereavement, perfectionism. identity, addictions, gender and others.
Please e-mail me in the first instance then we can arrange a 20 minute phone or online call or a face-to-face meeting to see if we suit each other and to discuss why you wish counselling, what I offer and a contract and negotiation of fees if you are satisfied with what you have learned
Training, qualifications & experience
As stated above I have been involved in the caring professions for a very long time,30 years, initially as a social worker with children and families but I have been counselling for the past 5 years and I am no longer a social worker. I want to be honest with you.
I have two Masters qualifications, one in social work, the other in counselling.
I have worked with people with a range of issues: suicide ideation, depression, anxiety, self-harming, motivation, sexual identity, relationship issues, work stress, bereavement, family concerns perfectionism, self-esteem etc
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
