Male Centred Counsellor MBACP Adv Dip Couns

About me

If you’re here, you might be carrying more than you let on, pressure, anger, shame, numbness, or the sense that you “should be coping better than this.” Most men learn to push things down and keep going. It works… until it doesn’t.

I’m a trauma‑informed counsellor in Newton Abbot, working with men and adults across Devon and online UK‑wide. My approach is grounded, practical, and somatic, helping you understand what’s happening in your body, not just your thoughts. You don’t need the right words. You just need to show up.

How I work

I focus on:

male emotional experience and the pressure to hold it together
trauma, shame, anger, and emotional shutdown
anxiety, overwhelm, and burnout
boundaries, relationships, and self‑worth
reconnecting with your body and reducing internal tension
Sessions are collaborative and down‑to‑earth. We slow things right down, make sense of what’s going on inside you, and build tools you can actually use in real life.

Why men choose this space

Clients often tell me:

“I’ve never talked about this before.”
“I didn’t realise how much I was holding.”
“I finally understand what’s going on inside me.”
You won’t get judgement or clinical detachment. You’ll get clarity, honesty, and a space where you don’t have to perform.

What I can help with

Trauma (including childhood, relational, emotional neglect)
Anxiety, panic, and chronic stress
Shame, anger, emotional suppression
Depression, numbness, disconnection
Relationship and communication difficulties
Identity, purpose, confidence
Men’s issues, masculinity, life transitions
Location

I work from a private therapy room in Newton Abbot and offer online sessions across the UK.

Next steps

If something here resonates, get in touch for a first session or a brief call. You don’t need to have everything figured out, we can start from wherever you are.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with experience supporting children, young adults, and older adults across a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. I hold Level 2, 3, and 4 Diplomas in Counselling, alongside additional training in Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Compassionate Inquiry (Gabor Maté), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and male‑centred psychology.

A key focus of my work is supporting men through male‑centred psychology. Many men have grown up with outdated beliefs about what it means to be “strong”, “capable”, or “emotionally controlled”, often without healthy male role models to guide them. These early messages can shape how men relate, cope, and express themselves as adults.

My approach creates space to question these inherited beliefs and explore healthier, more authentic ways of being. A central part of this work involves helping men understand how they see themselves, building confidence, strengthening self‑worth, and offering validation that they are enough, even when they or others have struggled to recognise that. Therapy becomes a place where they can reconnect with their own value, develop emotional clarity, and step into a more grounded and confident sense of self.

At the heart of my practice is a simple principle: you come first.

I work collaboratively, focusing on what you want and need from therapy, and creating a space where you can explore your experiences safely and at your own pace.

I also believe in the value of compassionate challenge. If something you say doesn’t quite align with your deeper values or feels out of step with the direction you want to move in, I will enquire with care and curiosity. This isn’t about confrontation, it’s about helping you uncover what feels true, meaningful, and authentic for you.

My aim is to support you in understanding yourself more deeply, developing emotional clarity, and moving toward the life you want to live.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I charge £45 per session because I am in a position to do so. I believe counselling should be accessible, and I want to ensure that support is available to as many people as possible. My aim is to offer high‑quality therapy at a fair and manageable rate, without compromising the depth or integrity of the work we do together.
