About me

I don’t believe people need fixing.

I believe we all make sense.

The ways we cope, the patterns we fall into and even the parts of ourselves we struggle with often developed for a reason. They may once have helped us survive, protect ourselves or stay connected to others, but sometimes those same patterns can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or wondering why we keep ending up in the same place.

Therapy, for me, is not about trying to turn you into someone different. It is about becoming curious about who you already are and how you came to be that person.

I work relationally, which means the relationship we build together is an important part of the therapy. I’m interested not only in what has happened to you, but in how your experiences may have shaped the way you see yourself, relate to others and move through the world.

My therapeutic work with adults in specialist domestic abuse and sight-loss services has deepened my understanding of how trauma, complex trauma, abuse, loss and disability can affect identity, relationships and a person’s sense of safety in the world.

I work particularly with people whose lives or sense of self have been shaped by trauma, loss, difficult relationships or significant life changes. This can include domestic and sexual abuse, sight loss and disability, bereavement, coercive or high-control environments, low self-esteem and questions around identity.

Together, we may explore what is happening now, past experiences, or patterns that keep showing up in your relationships. We can look at how these experiences continue to affect you, the ways you learned to cope, and what you may want to understand or do differently now.

Sometimes talking alone may not feel enough. Where it feels helpful, we may slow things down and notice emotions, body responses or what is happening between us. I may ask questions, offer reflections, gently draw attention to something I notice or invite you to explore an experience differently.

My practice is trauma-informed and shaped by attachment. I am a humanistic therapist and draw on Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Transactional Analysis, adapting the work to you.

I believe meaningful change begins when we stop fighting against ourselves and begin to understand and accept ourselves more fully.

I welcome people from all backgrounds, identities and life experiences, and aim to offer an inclusive and accessible space where you can bring your whole self.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Southchurch, Westcliff and Leigh-on-Sea, as well as online and telephone sessions across the UK.

I completed my professional training at Metanoia Institute, where I trained in Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Transactional Analysis. My training was both academically and clinically demanding and gave me a strong foundation for working relationally and humanistically with clients, while staying responsive to each person’s individual experiences, needs and way of making sense of their world.

I have experience working with adults across private practice and specialist counselling services, including domestic abuse and sight-loss organisations. My work has included trauma and complex trauma, domestic abuse and coercive control, anxiety, bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, disability and sight loss, identity concerns and significant life changes.

I am DBS-checked, fully insured for my therapeutic practice, and registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

I undertake regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development, and I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I know that choosing a therapist can feel very personal, and sometimes quite daunting.

Before booking your first session, I offer a free 15-minute telephone or online consultation. This gives us a chance to briefly talk about what has brought you to therapy, for you to ask any questions and to get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable working with me.

I value difference and welcome people from diverse cultural, racial, religious and social backgrounds, as well as people of different identities, abilities and life experiences. I aim to offer a space where you do not need to leave important parts of who you are at the door.

Face-to-face sessions are available in Southchurch, Westcliff and Leigh-on-Sea. My Westcliff room is wheelchair accessible. I also offer online and telephone counselling across the UK, and I’m happy to discuss any accessibility needs before we begin.
