About me

Welcome to Acer Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I work on a one-to-one basis with adults (18+) offering online or face-to-face sessions for both short-term (6 sessions) or longer-term (6+ sessions).

I have a background working with a range of adult clients, including those experiencing relationship difficulties, both personal and work-related, those caring for loved ones, past trauma, bereavement & loss, perimenopause and menopause, low mood and anxiety, feelings of being ‘stuck’, and the complexities and ambiguities of moving through phases of life.

Often, professional counselling is the only confidential space people have in their lives to talk about their personal situation, without judgement. You have taken a big step towards asking for support with the challenges you are experiencing, and I will help you through this time in your life in an open, respectful way.

Training, qualifications & experience

About me

Prior to training as a Counsellor, I worked in varying roles throughout my life, across all organisational sectors, including private, public, charitable, and Higher Education, giving me a broad perspective of the workplace and people in general. I have experienced life’s ups and downs and have at various times sought counselling to work through difficult issues, so I understand how important it is to provide a safe, supportive, confidential, non-judgemental space to explore your deepest fears and anxieties.

Qualifications and Member organisations

I am qualified to Level 7 Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and am currently completing my Master's.

Prior to my Post-Graduate Diploma, I completed a Level 4 Certificate in Counselling, and from university (the first time round), I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioural Sciences.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). This means I adhere to an Ethical Framework and code of practice. It also requires me to receive ‘supervision’ every month to ensure I am practicing safely and ethically.

What happens in therapy?

My role is to explore with you what has brought you to seek therapy. In the initial 30-minute free consultation, we’ll briefly discuss what you would like to explore and any goals or aims you may have (you may not know just yet, and that’s fine too).

Following the initial consultation, you’ll have the chance to reflect on whether you would like to continue to work with me.

If you decide to continue, usually we begin with 6 sessions. Sessions are 50 minutes, once per week for 6 weeks – but this is not set in stone and can be less or significantly more depending on you and your unique situation.
