About me
Hi, my name is Lucy. I’m a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist based in the foothills of the black mountains. I support clients with a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self esteem issues, loss and bereavement and trauma.
Sessions can either be in a beautiful, cosy house in Talgarth, Powys, a therapy room in the middle of Hereford city close to some lovely cafes, online from wherever is safe and convenient for you, or out and about in the fresh air on a walk and talk. I'd recommend a couple of sessions indoors first, to more easily establish what you would like to gain from the counselling process.
My approach as a therapist is integrative, meaning that I can draw from techniques from different theories, depending on what seems to suit the session and the client. The beauty of working this way is that the approach is unique to each individual and the support is more rounded.
One to one sessions will always be warm, empathic and non judgemental. It is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client that is the biggest vehicle for change and so it’s fundamental that you feel I’m the right therapist for you. A twenty minute initial session is offered free of charge to help with this. Should you choose to continue, we can arrange a first session and take it from there.
More information about the theories I draw from.
Being psychodynamically informed means that I can work with you to explore how past relationships and experiences might be impacting on your current life.
Working from an existential perspective allows us to bring elements of philosophy and psychology into therapy to promote further understanding of our place in the world.
If appropriate, we might bring in elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps you to change some of these where they are unhelpful, using a variety of practical strategies and tools, such as journalling.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a postgraduate diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of South Wales, a model that blends humanistic, psychodynamic, relational, and cognitive behavioural therapies.
As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I adhere strictly to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate, full indemnity insurance, and receive regular supervision as part of my professional and personal development.
Specific qualifications:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (Level 7) University of South Wales
- Certificate in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy University of South Wales
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Contact me
If you're thinking about working with me, the first step is to make an initial enquiry. From there, we can arrange a free introductory call to see if I'm the right therapist for you. I'm always happy to answer any questions you might have about the process or myself as a therapist.
Should you feel comfortable after our phone call, we can book a first session and take it from there.
I look forward to hearing from you.
