About me

How Can I Help You?

Do you self identify as autistic?

Are you currently awaiting an autism referral/assessment?

Or, perhaps you have already received a diagnosis? Or, maybe you’ve been assessed, but disagree with the assessment outcome, and want to talk it through?

I am a qualified, BACP accredited, experienced counsellor and I've been working therapeutically since 2018, I have an interest in working with neurodivergence, autism in particular.

I have vast amounts of personal experience with Neurodivergence and therefore feel that I can be a great source of support to you.

The whole process of waiting for and receiving an autism referral, and then waiting again for the assessment, can bring up a lot of difficult emotions.

I would like to help you work through those emotions in a non-judgemental, safe space.

Whether you are self identifying, awaiting an assessment, or are in receipt of an ‘assessment outcome’ (diagnosis or not) it is common to feel:

  • Overwhelmed
  • Afraid
  • Isolated
  • Confused
  • Regretful
  • Shocked
  • Sad
  • Stressed
  • Angry
  • Discriminated against
  • Judged…

…or you might be anticipating some of the above feelings.

On the contrary, some people also feel:

  • Hopeful
  • Relieved
  • Grateful
  • Exhilarated
  • Happy
  • Validated
  • Vindicated
  • Seen
  • Heard

Or a mixture of the above!

Maybe you’re feeling nothing at all, and are maybe wondering why you’re feeling so neutral, or perhaps numb?

It is also common to be concerned about the wellbeing of any children (or planned children), who might also be neurodivergent.

The society that we live in isn’t necessarily that accommodating to neurodivergent individuals. Perhaps you’re feeling unsupported, or 'disabled by society'?

I would love to support you as you view your life story through a neurodivergent lens and to help you to make sense of and navigate your future (a future that, for some, might look different now.)

What to Expect in Session 1

In the first session I take the time to make sure that we are going to be the right match for one another by asking some questions.

It's informal and relaxed, and a good opportunity for you to ask any questions that you might have, too.

If we decide to work together there is no need to commit to a certain amount of sessions.

Availability

I try to be as flexible as possible. Please let me know what your availability is when you get in touch and I will see what I can offer you.

You, the client, can decide this as we go along.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
