About me
Life can be really challenging at times. We humans may experience traumatic events, loss, low self-esteem, or difficulties in our relationships. We can feel grief, guilt, shame, anger, stress, anxiety and depression. Sometimes painful emotions can feel overwhelming and exhausting. Even when we have family or friends we trust, to share our problems with and support us, it can really help to talk to a counsellor who will listen with empathy and without judgment or criticism.
I am a fully trained and experienced Psychodynamic counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand how your current feelings and behaviour are shaped by your past experiences and your unconscious mind. When we unravel the past, it can help us recognise and understand unhelpful patterns in our present lives. These patterns can sometimes result in us feeling "stuck". Working together with a counsellor we trust, we can become more self-aware and develop our capacity for resilience, growth and belief in ourselves going forward. This in turn can have a positive impact on our relationships.
I can provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. You can bring anything you want to talk about and we will work at a pace which suits you. I will listen carefully and help you to feel heard and understood.
I offer 50 minute sessions at the same time each week; either short term (time-limited) or longer term (open-ended). We can meet face to face from my comfortable practice on the outskirts of Chichester in Westhampnett. Or if you prefer, I am happy for us to meet online, using Zoom.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic (Psychodynamic) counselling which is BACP accredited. I have worked as a volunteer for a community counselling organisation for over 3 years. As a member of BACP, I undertake regular training and learning activities to update and continue my professional development. I also have regular supervision with an experienced BACP accredited supervisor.
In my previous career, I worked in the UK, Asia and Africa. My roles included coaching and mentoring and I became passionate about working with people to support them to reach their full potential. I began to realise how much the past holds clues to understanding ourselves and our difficulties in the present, whether in work or home life. This led to my desire to become a Psychodynamic counsellor; to work with people to get to the root causes of what may be causing inner conflict and unhappiness. Not simply to "paper over the cracks" with temporary solutions. This more in-depth type of counselling can lead to lasting change, personal growth and a greater sense of balance.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
