About me

Life can be very confusing sometimes. One minute everything feels safe, steady and like you understand it, then something happens which makes the ground you walk on and everything you thought you knew, unsteady. It doesn't always have to be that something has happened, these feelings you are feeling may have been part of your life for a while now and you want to understand them more and explore them safely with someone. My name is Laura and I understand all those feelings as well as the ones that remain unsaid. Looking for counselling is the first step to making that unsteady ground more solid, those feelings that consume your thought space and impact your everyday life, more manageable and ultimately move that dark cloud which may be above you and surrounding you to sunnier, happier days.

I am an integrative counsellor which means I won't be giving you advice or coach you,  but I will walk alongside you on this journey so that we can explore what is happening in your world, support you in finding the answers yourself with a non-judgemental, empathic space. It allows you the space to make goals for your counselling, review our work together in an open ended space of time. I can also offer shorter pieces of work of 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 20 weeks.

I work in a variety of ways; talking therapy which means I will listen closely to what you are saying in a non-judegmental space, allowing you safety to explore your feelings and thoughts. We can be creative as this is where real emotional depth and reflection of feelings can happen which can sometimes be hampered if we are scared to say out loud how we are feeling. We can also work somatically, focusing on the energy stored in our body which may demonstrate the stresses and anxiety we are feeling through pain and tension. We can learn and embed techniques which ground and allow you to work through the trauma energy. We can work face to face in a safe office space, online or via the telephone, ultimately, we will work in the way that you want to work to find solutions for things that may be taking away the light in your life.

I offer free 20 minute introduction sessions either via the telephone or GoogleMeet, which allows us to get to know each other, ask any question you may have and for you to see if I am the right counsellor for you. I also offer low cost counselling (subject to evidence and review) so that counselling is accessible for everyone.

Whether the counselling is for you, a loved one or your child, I am here with you, to support you and to find a sunnier day.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor working in Bedfordshire. I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP (The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I am a qualified Trauma Counsellor (Level 5) and specialise also in disordered eating, anxiety, trauma, childhood trauma, the plight of women, the mother daughter puzzle and SEND. I have worked with most mental health presentations including extensively with anxiety, depression, BPD, teens and PTSD / trauma. I also work alongside ECP Bedford. I like to work creatively if clients feel this would benefit them or we can work in a talking relationship - which ever you would prefer as this is your journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
