About me

My name is Krissy and I'm a relational, trauma-specialised psychotherapist with over 12-years' experience working therapeutically. I see clients face-to-face in Plymouth, UK and across the world online. I draw on Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and person-centres approaches amongst others, alongside ongoing training and integration of newer trauma-informed thinking. Rather than working rigidly from one model, I tailor the work to you - your history, your nervous system, and what feels most helpful to you. Working in an integrative way allows our work to remain flexible and responsive, whether we are focusing on understanding patterns from the past, developing emotional regulation, working with parts of the self, or strengthening self-compassion and resilience.

At the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship. I believe lasting change happens not just through the techniques I use, but through feeling seen, heard, understood and safe enough to explore what is difficult for you.

I specialise in complex trauma, though work with varying presenting issues and my approach is warm, collaborative and gently challenging. I will work at your pace, supporting the regulation of your nervous system, whilst building a greater capacity in self-understanding. I continue to up-skill and reflect on my practice because I believe good therapy is alive, responsive, and always evolving.

In my practice, you can expect a calm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where your experiences are taken seriously and with care. Therapy with me is paced carefully and collaboratively ensuring a sense of safety is maintained.

I am committed to working in a neuro-affirming, LGBTQ+-affirming and culturally aware way. I recognise and respect our intersectionality including neurodiversity, gender identity, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, faith, class and lived experience with a clear understanding of how discrimination or marginalisation can impact overall wellbeing. My practice is grounded in respect, collaboration and a commitment to ongoing learning.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been in private practice for 8-years. As part of my private practice I do EAP work and work with various insurance companies (such as AVIVA and AXA). I continue to work with the local Fire Service also.

I held an NHS position as a trainee psychologist and prior to private practice I worked for 4-years in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit and various charities including a sexual abuse in childhood charity, a bereavement charity and I worked with young people.

I am committed to ongoing learning, it is incredibly important to me. As such, I have completed various CPD from suicide training, to working with disassociation, advanced EMDR and Internal Family Systems.

Being dynamic, and ensuring I am continually developing my skills means I can offer you a high-quality, ethical and effective service.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
