About me

We all experience times of difficulty in our lives, when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose. Talking to a trained professional helps us make sense of those challenging times and offers a way through them, moving towards a better understanding of ourselves and our feelings.

I work Psychodynamically, which can feel different to other therapies, like CBT. A helpful way to describe it is exploring how the past can be carried into our present lives, in relationships or decisions that we might make. Therapy offers a chance to consider past and present with someone who will be with you in this exploration, whilst everything discussed will stay between us, separate from your life.

My approach is to work at your pace, exploring what you feel is coming up for you, sometimes noticing patterns and making connections to other aspects of your life. Our sessions are confidential and they offer a space where you can gently explore what’s on your mind and what’s going on for you in your life, in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere. Often people describe feeling ‘held’ emotionally in these sessions, where feelings can be felt, and contained.

The sessions also provide the opportunity for some gentle challenge to help us to see what might not have been thought about or noticed before and to explore how your past is coming through in your current life, in a way that may no longer be helpful. I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives - and perhaps a new understanding of yourself.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and insured Psychodynamic Counsellor, and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I completed a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling at the Leicester Centre for Psychodynamic Counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
