About me
Making the decision to talk to a therapist about how you are feeling can be one of the toughest ones you’ll make, but it can be life changing.
I know that finding the right therapist can be a difficult and a daunting prospect.
Depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement, a life changing decision, relationships, work, identity, a diagnosis, supporting someone else and feel forgotten, neglected, perhaps you are just drifting and feeling lost without purpose. A new problem or one that has been buried within for years. Share and be liberated without judgement.
I will work with you on your path to achieve either of two things - to help you overcome your anxieties completely or to find a way to help live with them and making an easier life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have had several years training and experience in Person Centred counselling including complex grief; traumatic bereavement; depression; anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I have been involved with the bereavement charity Cruse for a number of years, working with bereaved individuals through their grief. I am the Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead at my place of work, working with Senior Management Team to embed a positive approach to mental health and supporting people who need it.
I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Transactional Analysis therapist, and this, combined with my Person Centred experience allows me to bring different perspectives to the counselling/therapy room, to support you.
Couples Therapy - Some common issues affecting relationships that may prompt seeking a therapist can include: affairs, infidelities, breaking agreements, breaking & rebuilding trust, guilt blame & forgiveness, disappointment, loss, medical issues, mental health issues. Stepfamilies - new roles & divided loyalties.
Therapy could allow couples the opportunity to talk about difficult issues in a safe place. Couples can practice negotiating directly with one another; learn how to communicate better, give & receive feedback. Couples can become empowered, so reliance on therapy is gradually reduced.
When meeting face-to-face, we will meet In Ambleside, in an accessible building with free parking. When working online, we will use Zoom.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Client testimonials:
"I saw Katie earlier this year for some therapy sessions. My husband of 47 years died suddenly of a heart attack just over 2 years ago. I had been coping well but during winter I began to feel the full force of my grief and felt I had been so focused on coping that I hadn't processed the emotions properly.
Speaking with Katie helped me to understand that grieving isn't linear and that periods of emotional discomfort are a normal part of the process. I was concerned about the possible depression stage of grief and she explained that it isn't always part of the grieving process and every person reacts in different ways.
I felt listened to and talking things through has definitely helped me to feel calmer and less worried when I feel triggered by something or a memory.
I am very grateful for her professional support and would recommend her to anyone struggling with a problem."
"Just a really genuine support, Katie who was dealing with me was amazing. So kind and supportive but yet genuine. Really has made a difference in my life."
"A friend recommended Katie at a time when I was really struggling with the grief and deep heartbreak after the break up of a long relationship. I felt comfortable in the sessions to work through my thoughts and feelings and Katie was always supportive and did not rush me, allowing me time between the sessions to work through the things we had discussed. I had been feeling very alone and lost with my thoughts and on an emotional rollercoaster with episodes of sadness, exhaustion and low mood. Katie’s thoughtful listening and positive guidance allowed me to express what I was bottling up inside and work on building my resilience which will hopefully help me to cope as I continue to navigate this new chapter in my life."
“My contact with Katie can only be described as excellent, and the five sessions we had were very helpful.”
