About me

"Counselling has changed my perspective on life and has enhanced my relationship with my adult children" is how one of my clients described how counselling had helped them. Another said "When I started I had no idea who I was, why I felt the way I did or how to handle the relentless feelings of guilt, sadness, anger and pain. I recognise the person I am today and I am proud of her, it has changed my life for all the right reasons."

Hi. I'm Kathryn, a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor offering both short and long-term therapy to adults and young people aged 14 and over.

Many people believe that counselling is only helpful if there is a specific issue to talk about but if you or your child is struggling or overwhelmed and have no idea why, counselling can be really helpful . Talking to someone who isn't a friend or family member can be powerful because it provides a safe and confidential place to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences openly and honestly. Counselling is personal so there is no right or wrong time to ask for help.

I believe the relationship between you and your therapist is the single most important factor in counselling. Choosing a therapist can be daunting and there are many reasons someone may or may not be the right counsellor for you. Our work together will be collaborative and paced according to what feels right for you. I offer an online or phone chat to answer any questions you may have and to give you a sense of whether you would like to work with me. If either of us feel I'm not the right person, I will do my very best to signpost you to someone who might be a better fit.

Sessions are available face to face or online to suit you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
