About me
I see therapy as a safe place to gently explore and make more sense of our lives; where we can gain insight, challenge our beliefs, process our experiences and find better ways of being. I believe we gain insight and develop a sense of ourselves through relationship.
I provide a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental space and a commitment to offer you my full attention, compassion and curiosity.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be the foundation for gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves. I will work with you in a collaborative way; I can adapt and use different approaches as appropriate for your needs. What we talk about is wholly your decision, I won't force you to discuss anything you don't want to. I won't be shocked by what you say, and I understand how difficult it can sometimes be to say it out loud.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am a qualified Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). My training started over 20 years ago when I completed an Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Psychotherapy, and I've completed further training in Body Psychotherapy and ways of working with complex trauma.
I have particular experience and skills in working with relationships and attachment behaviour; loss and bereavement; issues from childhood, including sexual abuse, neglect and attachment. I’ve learned a lot about how to support people living with chronic pain and health conditions; I can also help with more recent traumas and events of any kind, and the impacts associated with these, such as; anxiety, panic attacks, depression, nightmares, flashbacks, fear and avoidance.
As well as extensive experience as a therapist, I also have many years of experience managing therapeutic and wellbeing services across a variety of organisations, from community counselling services, NHS trusts and third-sector organisations, such as Terrence Higgins Trust, Diabetes UK and Save the Children. I am also currently employed as the Service Manager of Iron Mill Counselling Service in Exeter.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
