About me
Are you feeling anxious or overwhelmed in your daily life? Maybe even emotionally burnt out? You may have experienced traumatic events, bullying or abuse that have changed or harmed you and made life a massive struggle. Sometimes, painful and repeating life patterns develop after difficult childhood, teenage, or adult relationships, leaving you feeling stuck, traumatised or unsure of who you truly are. It can feel like you can’t see the wood for the trees when trying to work through problems on your own.
Perhaps you’re facing painful or frightening emotions such as severe anxiety, deep shame or distressing low mood. Many people have low self-esteem and feel trapped by harsh self-criticism, or by obsessional routines and rituals driven by fear that something bad might happen. When this happens, we can feel fearful, confused or hopeless. Life can feel overwhelming and hard to manage.
With any of these problems and with any others not listed, I will listen with empathy and connect with you to explore your emotional problems together, help you find clarity and support you to move forward with confidence in your coping abilities.
I am a HCPC registered chartered clinical psychologist with over 20 years NHS experience in Adult Mental Health. I offer compassionate and collaborative therapy for most mental health-related issues. I am experienced in psychological assessment and formulation (making sense of difficulties) and will tailor psychological interventions from multiple therapy models, to help you achieve lasting change and to heal from trauma if needed.
I have worked for many years with people affected by complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety disorders (incl OCD), depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, dysfunctional coping styles, identity issues, attachment and characterological issues, using a range of evidence-based therapies, e.g. CBT, DBT, EMDR, CT-PTSD and EFT. Trauma-focused therapy is my main interest area. I can also offer full DBT skills for coping with emotions, using mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness skills, as I have co-run DBT skills groups in the NHS.
We will work together to develop a detailed formulation/understanding as a foundation to guide therapy. Psychological intervention will depend on what you need and feel open to undertaking. This may be insight into your life patterns using Schema Therapy, tackling problematic beliefs that may be keeping you stuck using CBT, working on emotional coping using DBT (with focus on mindfulness) or maybe emotional processing of your trauma memories that affect both your body and mind, using EMDR and/or Cognitive Therapy for PTSD, with a somatic body focus.
I believe a key factor in psychological growth, is an accepting and supportive therapeutic relationship. Whatever mental health or emotional problems you bring, I can help and will endeavour to make you feel safe to talk freely without fear of judgement, sit with you in painful emotions and help you find a way through! You don't need to do this alone. Please reach out for a free introductory chat if you need help.
