About me

I am a fully registered and accredited psychotherapist with twenty years of clinical experience.

I work in private practice with individuals, couples and groups.

My initial training was in Integrative Psychotherapy, a modality of talking therapy which integrates the theories and methodologies of psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and existential-phenomenological psychotherapy in ways that meet the individual needs of different clients.

My approach is dialogical, collaborative and philosophical in nature; a conversation about things that really matter.

Psychotherapy is an opportunity for you to articulate, in a confidential and non-judgmental space where you will be treated with honesty, respect and compassion, the circumstances you are struggling with and explore the possible courses of action that may be available to you, considering mindfully the consequences that each gives rise to.

The therapeutic process can help you to understand your unique way of being in the world, the forces that have shaped your life, and how, with time, you might come to take up a new relationship with yourself, others, and your world.

Trauma, great or small, causes us to rearrange ourselves around the event(s), or person(s), that caused us harm. The impact is not only on our thoughts and behaviours but also on our physiology. Accordingly I pay particular care and attention to your nervous system responses, with the intention of helping you to foster a capacity for self-regulation, vital for restoring (or discovering) an experience of safety in your body and your felt sense of the world.

I work with people facing a wide range of concerns including eating disorders, addictions, anxiety and depression and those navigating relationship difficulties, bereavement or neurodiversity. I also support those experiencing a less definable sense of struggle or stuck-ness and those seeking deeper self-understanding or life purpose.

An overarching aim of my work is the cultivation of self-knowledge and self-compassion, and the nurturing of a mindset of lifelong learning and meaning-making, which will continue to benefit you after the therapeutic work itself ends.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my Post Graduate training in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regent's University London. I am also a certified specialist in Grief and Loss Counselling (Cruse Bereavement UK), Eating Disorder Therapy (NCFED & CREDO) and Couples and Relationship Counselling (COSRT).

I'm currently training in Bodydreaming with Marian Dunlea and BodySoul Europe. Bodydreaming is a powerful, research-driven, approach to working with trauma  (with a focus on the regulation of the nervous system) within the framework of talking therapy.

Prior to establishing my private practice, I worked in the field of residential addiction and eating disorder treatment, in the UK and internationally.

I am registered with and accredited by the BACP and abide by their ethical framework. I undertake regular clinical supervision and extensive CPD (continuing professional development) to ensure that I maintain the highest standards of clinical practice and ethical conduct.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I work with clients throughout the UK and internationally, largely in my online clinic, with some spaces available in-person in Bristol.

Sessions are fifty minutes unless otherwise agreed, and typically weekly, though sometimes more frequently depending on your needs.

I conduct online sessions via Zoom from a private, confidential home office. All sessions are strictly confidential and I work in accordance with GDPR regulations and BACP ethical guidelines regarding data protection and privacy.

Subject to availability I offer an introductory telephone call or Zoom session - free of charge  - in which we can discuss your particular needs, I can answer any questions you may have, and most importantly you can get a sense of what working with me will be like.

I welcome and value diversity in all its forms and strive to ensure equity, non-discrimination and inclusivity.
