About me

I will walk alongside you to help you identify any concerns or issues that are affecting you, explore them safely and confidentially, and support you in rediscovering your inner knowing to overcome them, as I believe we are the experts in our own lives.

We are all individuals with our own unique outlook on the world, and as an Integrative Counsellor, I use a tailored mix of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviours), Psychodynamic (understanding how past experiences might shape your present) and a Person-centred approach (with you in control), to find the best therapy for your specific needs. I work with a qualified supervisor to ensure best ethical practice, and engage in peer support for other creative approaches.

I offer both short- and long-term therapy, with a free first consultation (30 mins), and will work with you either face-to-face or via phone or video call, which means no matter where you are in the country, we can work together. I have experience in working with domestic and sexual abuse, relationship issues, menopause and peri-menopause, anxiety, depression, physical illness, bereavement, concerns around diet and food, as well as the stress of just being a human being in these times. If you're feeling the lasting impact of adversity, we can spend time processing those feelings of vulnerability that can leave us unmoored in our present lives. Sometimes we just need a place to download.

'We can do hard things.'

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications: I currently have a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling, and am working towards Senior Accreditation with the National Counselling & Pyschotherapy Society, of which I am a member.

Training:

  • CWAC Level 2 Domestic Abuse Foundation Certificate
  • CPD Online College Certificate in Domestic Violence
  • OE Certificate in ADHD Strategies: From Masking to Healing Shame with Compassion.
  • OE Certificate in Menopause Matters
  • OE Certificate in Working with Suicide
  • MHA Certificate in Strengths-Based Approach to Suicide Assessment & Treatment
  • MHA Certificate in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
  • Diploma in Nutrition for Children & Young People.

Experience:

I see clients who present with a huge range of issues, from day-to-day anxiety and stress, where they are functioning but not quite thriving; depression; physical illness and the mental health issues that surround it; domestic and sexual violence; general relationship concerns; familial issues; change of life scenarios, from having children (or not) to death and grief and everything in between.

I have done multiple counselling training in Coercive Control and DVA - Domestic Violence and Abuse - in order to support clients ethically and safely, as well as further CPD in Peri- and Menopause issues.

Having been brought up and now working in a rural setting, I'm well aware of the issues facing the rural and farming commuity today, and am able to offer support for those who feel they need extra support.

Testimonial:

Jo is a fantastic therapist, she brought light to a particularly dark time for me and helped me resolve long standing issues around emotional repression. I went into therapy with very low expectations, expecting it to amount to nothing, Jo was extremely attentive and insightful proving me very very wrong. She listens in a way I had never experienced before, in a way only a professional could."
