BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

Further information

I offer an initial 60mn assessment session at a lower fee of £60: I recommend meeting several therapists for an initial session and believe this is an important step to help you decide who you would like to work with. Therapy is an intimate form of relating, and an initial sense of trust and safety can be key to establishing a supportive ongoing relationship.

The purpose of the assessment session is to help us both decide whether we feel it would benefit you for us to continue working together. The assessment session will feel different from a normal therapy session as it will involve me gathering some information to find out a bit about you, what brings you to therapy, your background and lifestyle. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about the process and how I work.

Following this, we will meet weekly on the same day at an agreed time. Whilst I believe in the benefits of committing to regular sessions, I also understand that life does not always play ball, therefore I do allow for some flexibility.
