About me
Hello, my name is Jess. I am a child and teen psychotherapist and counsellor based in Edinburgh. I offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential place for children and teenagers to explore and gain understanding of their emotional worlds. My approach is integrative which draws from a range of therapeutic approaches. Through talking, play and art, my aim is to offer a nurturing therapeutic relationship that facilitates exploration and communication of emotions and experiences. This allows individuals to deepen their self-awareness, which in turn gives them the possibility to move forward from somewhere that might feel stuck and allow for healing and growth. This process will look different for each person.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked with children and young people (and loved it!) for 2 decades in many settings and roles. I ran my own business bringing yoga to children and teens in London schools, sharing the knowledge of how to tune into feelings and manage them using techniques rooted in yoga, such as conscious breathing and body awareness.
I completed my postgraduate diploma in ‘counselling and psychotherapy for children in schools’ in 2017 with Place2Be, the UK’s leading children’s mental health charity. Since then, I have done additional trainings and worked in a Rape Crisis centre, primary and secondary schools in London and Edinburgh. I provided therapeutic services to schools, encompassing work with children, parents, teachers and groups. I have worked with a diverse range of ages, needs and backgrounds. Every child or young person I have worked with is unique and I am always humbled and inspired by the inner resources and creativity that each client possesses.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I charge £65 per 45 minute session. To give transparency around my pricing, the fee you are paying ensures I am providing a service of the highest standards. This comprises legal and necessary costs. These include regular supervision, continuous professional development hours, membership to regulating bodies i.e. the BACP and PVG scheme, administration time (note taking, preparing for sessions and paperwork), room hire, equipment (art materials/toys) and tax.
I currently have some spaces available on Mondays.
Further information
I provide an initial 20 minute cost free phone call so you can ask questions and give a little detail of why you might be seeking therapy for your child. If you decide we are a good fit, I can provide you with more detailed documents about how we can proceed.
There is no minimum or maximum amount of sessions. I will regularly review the work alongside clients and where appropriate include parents/carers in this process. This ensures the individual’s needs are being met and keeps a channel of communication open between myself, the child or young person and parents/carers, while respecting the confidentiality of sessions.
