About me

"The difference in how I feel about the things that were making me anxious before I began therapy and after is more than I could have hoped for...understanding where my fears come from and how my mind and body process them is key to feeling better" (client feedback)

Do you struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, insecurity, feeling overwhelmed or a challenging relationship? Are you finding it difficult being a new mum, going through the menopause, recovering from abuse or moving past trauma? Have you lost your sense of self? Perhaps you find yourself always putting others first, never saying ‘no’ and feeling like your opinions/desires are not important? Do you wonder if life is always going to feel this hard? But it is possible to live your life in a happier, more positive way. Life doesn’t always have to feel this hard.

Hi, my name is Jemima and as a qualified counsellor I provide both short- and long-term integrative counselling to adults of all ages, offering face-to-face or online sessions for individuals and couples. I am based in York and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their code of ethics.

I offer a customised approach so you feel safe and heard; so you can understand yourself and the world around you. We start with exploring your challenges and understanding where you are now, then we can work towards moving forward by reframing your self-perceptions and experiences. Helping you live a better life is my passion.

Although it feels impossible, it’s never too late to change yourself and how you respond to situations and people; it demonstrates strength and courage to start that journey and seek support. I specialise in women's issues and my aim to help you find your inner empowerment, strength and resilience. I use compassion, empathy and no judgement. All are welcome.

Some of the feedback received from my clients:

"The difference in how I feel about the things that were making me anxious before I began therapy and after is more than I could have hoped for. When I first reached out I said that I had hesitated on seeking help because I didn't think anything could help except some sort of proof that the things I feared wouldn't come to pass, but now I know that understanding where my fears come from and how my mind and body process them is really the key to feeling better."

"A safe space to talk. The hardest thing was addressing aspects of my behaviour which I have struggled with and I found very difficult"

"With Jemima’s help I have developed better coping strategies which I now use on a daily basis"

"The level of attention you showed came out in how much you remembered each session about what we'd previously talked about, which was especially great given you weren't making notes as we spoke. I was made to feel like I didn't have to justify myself or my feelings."

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
