About me
I’m Janette, a qualified counsellor offering a warm, genuine and non-judgemental space for adults who may be struggling with anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-worth, difficult life experiences or simply feeling lost and unsure of where to go next.
Sometimes life changes us. Experiences such as loss, abuse, relationship breakdown, illness or difficult life circumstances can leave us feeling disconnected from who we once were. You may find yourself asking, “Who am I now?”, “What do I want?” or “How do I move forward?”
I believe counselling gives you the opportunity to slow things down, talk openly and make sense of what you are experiencing without judgement. I won't tell you what you should do or try to fit you into a box. Instead, I will listen, explore things with you, ask questions and gently challenge you when appropriate, helping you develop a greater understanding of yourself and what you need.
My approach is person-centred and integrative, meaning I draw on different therapeutic approaches according to you as an individual and what feels appropriate for your needs. I also bring over seven years of professional experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse and difficult life experiences.
I believe that people can change, grow and find their way forward, even when they cannot currently see how. My role isn't to carry you through that journey or walk it for you. It is to walk alongside you, offering support and stability while you begin to find your own feet again.
Sometimes the first step is simply having someone who will listen.
I offer online and telephone counselling for adults, with sessions lasting 50 minutes at £50. I also offer a free initial consultation, giving us the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling and whether I feel like the right counsellor for you.
The strength is within you. I just walked alongside.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified counsellor with a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, completed in 2021, and I am a current member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have over seven years of professional experience working within domestic abuse services, supporting individuals who have experienced abuse, trauma, difficult relationships and challenging life circumstances. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the emotional impact that difficult and traumatic experiences can have on a person's sense of safety, confidence, identity and relationships.
My counselling approach is person-centred and integrative. I work collaboratively with each client, drawing on different therapeutic approaches according to their individual circumstances, needs and goals rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Alongside my counselling qualification and professional experience, I continue to develop my knowledge and skills through ongoing learning and professional development.
I have a particular interest in supporting people experiencing anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, low self-esteem, life changes and the emotional impact of chronic illness.
I also have an interest in the relationship between emotional wellbeing, self-understanding and personal growth, and I recognise that spirituality can be an important part of some people's lives. Where appropriate, and only where this is something the client wishes to explore, I can make space for this within our work.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Payment arrangements, cancellations and other practical details are outlined in my counselling agreement, which you will receive before your counselling begins.
If you have any questions about fees or how sessions work, please feel free to ask during your initial consultation.
Further information
I believe finding the right counsellor is important, and that the relationship you build with your counsellor can make a real difference. You don't have to know exactly what you need from counselling before you get in touch.
My aim is to offer a genuine, down-to-earth space where you can talk openly and be yourself. There doesn't have to be a perfect way to explain what you're feeling, and you don't need to have all the answers.
I work with adults online and by telephone, and I offer a free initial consultation so that we can have a conversation before you decide whether counselling with me feels right for you.
I also recognise that every person is different. Some people need space to talk, some need help making sense of what they are feeling, and others may want to understand themselves and their relationships more deeply. We can work together to find what is right for you.
My belief is that counselling isn't about someone telling you how to live your life. It's about having someone alongside you while you find your own way forward.
