About me

Hi, I’m Jamie, and thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.

Reaching out for counselling isn’t always easy. You might not even know exactly what you need help with – you may just know that something doesn’t feel right, life has become overwhelming, or you’re tired of feeling the way you do.

I have a particular interest in working with anxiety, panic, stress and burnout. Perhaps your mind never seems to switch off, you overthink everything, worry about your health, experience panic attacks, or have started avoiding situations because of how they make you feel. Or maybe you’ve spent so long coping, working and looking after everything else that you've reached the point where you simply feel exhausted.

Sometimes you're functioning perfectly well on the outside while struggling considerably on the inside.

I also have a particular interest in ADHD and neurodiversity. ADHD can affect far more than concentration. You may struggle with an incredibly busy mind, overwhelm, procrastination, emotional regulation, impulsivity or low self-esteem. Perhaps you've spent years wondering why things that seem easy for other people can feel so difficult for you. For some people, understanding their ADHD – whether recently diagnosed, diagnosed years ago, or simply exploring the possibility – can help them begin to make sense of themselves in a very different way.

My approach to counselling is warm, relaxed and down-to-earth. You won't be judged, analysed or expected to know exactly what to say. We can start with what's happening for you now and work things out together.

I believe understanding why we feel and behave the way we do can be incredibly powerful. We can explore what triggers your difficulties, the thoughts and beliefs that may be keeping them going, and where some of those patterns may have originated. Just as importantly, we can look at practical ways of helping you move forward.

I work pluralistically, which simply means I don't believe one type of therapy suits everybody. I draw upon approaches including Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy, adapting how we work according to you and what you need.

Although anxiety, panic, stress, burnout and ADHD are particular areas of interest, I also work with a wider range of difficulties including depression, low self-esteem and confidence, trauma, relationship and family difficulties, and addictive behaviours.

Most importantly, I want therapy to feel like somewhere you can be yourself. My aim is to offer a comfortable, supportive and non-judgemental relationship where you feel listened to, understood and able to talk openly about what's really going on.

If you're unsure whether counselling is right for you, or whether I'm the right counsellor for you, I offer a free 30-minute, no-obligation consultation. There's no pressure to book anything afterwards. It's simply an opportunity for us to have a chat about what's happening, how I might be able to help, and for you to ask any questions.

Sometimes that first conversation is the hardest part. After that, we take it from there.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an NCPS-accredited counsellor with particular experience and interest in anxiety, panic, stress, burnout and ADHD. I also have experience supporting people with depression, low self-esteem and confidence, bereavement, trauma, addiction, relationship and family difficulties.

My training allows me to work in an integrative and flexible way, adapting therapy to the individual rather than expecting everyone to fit into one particular approach.

Qualifications include:

Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice
Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision, including Online and Telephone Working
Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Skills and Theory
Level 3 Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Introduction to Counselling Skills
BA (Hons) Degree

My therapeutic training includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy, which enables us to explore both what may be behind your difficulties and practical ways of helping you move forward.

Alongside my counselling work, I am also a qualified supervisor, counselling tutor and workplace trainer, with experience delivering training to organisations and trainee counsellors.

My professional background has also given me first-hand understanding of the pressures that can come with demanding workplaces, responsibility and trying to balance work with life outside it. This particularly informs my work with work-related stress, overwhelm and burnout.

What I can help with
I have a particular interest in working with anxiety, panic, stress, burnout and ADHD.

Anxiety can show up in many different ways. You may experience panic attacks, health anxiety, phobias, constant worrying or overthinking. Perhaps you've started avoiding certain places or situations, or you're constantly monitoring how you feel and worrying that something might be wrong.

Stress and burnout can feel different. You might be struggling to switch off, feeling overwhelmed by work or responsibilities, becoming more irritable or emotional, or simply feeling exhausted from being permanently "on". Sometimes you've been coping for so long that you don't realise how much pressure you're under until things start to feel unmanageable.

I also work with adults with ADHD, including difficulties with overwhelm, racing thoughts, procrastination, emotional regulation, impulsivity, confidence and self-esteem. Therapy can provide a space to better understand how your brain works, recognise patterns that may be causing difficulties and find ways of managing life that work better for you.

Alongside these areas, I support people experiencing depression, low self-esteem and confidence, trauma, bereavement, relationship and family difficulties, and addictive behaviours.

You don't need to have a diagnosis or know exactly what's wrong before getting in touch. Sometimes people simply know that they're struggling and want things to change.

I offer a free 30-minute consultation, giving us an opportunity to have an informal chat about what's happening for you, what you'd like help with and how we might work together. You're also welcome to ask any questions before deciding whether you'd like to continue.

You can get in touch by phone, text or email.
