About me

Hi, I'm James - a qualified integrative therapist working online and in person in Queens Park, NW6.

Why begin therapy?

You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that keep repeating despite everything you’ve tried to change.  For some people this shows up as anxiety, panic attacks, a harsh internal voice, persistent stress, or perfectionism that never seems to let up.  Others come carrying the impact of trauma, emotional or sexual abuse, or attachment wounds.  Depression, low self-worth, loneliness, and self-harm can emerge when there hasn’t been a safe place for difficult feelings to go.  I offer a space where these experiences can be shared rather than managed alone.

I work affirmatively with neurodivergent clients and GSRD  - this includes LGBTQIA+, kink, non-monogamy, and sex work.  I also recognise that the focus of what you bring to therapy may have little to do with any of these.

How does it work?

We will work together to explore what brought you to therapy and to explore the changes you want in your life, working at a pace that feels right for you.

The relationship between client and therapist is central to how I work.  I'm not only interested in the story you bring, but in how it feels to share it with me.  Together we'll pay attention to your experiences, your relationships, and the way you see yourself and the world.  As time goes on, we may notice patterns that keep repeating in your life, or ways you’ve learned to hide or protect yourself.  Therapy can be a place to get to know yourself in new ways, and to find gentler, freer ways of being with yourself.

I bring a particular awareness of how identity, belonging, and societal pressures can shape us.  This is a space where you don’t need to leave parts of yourself at the door, where all of you is welcome.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and we will meet at the same time each week.  We can agree to work for a set number of sessions or we can work in an open ended way for as long as it feels useful for you.  Committing to meeting weekly can feel daunting at first but it allows a sense of safety through consistency to be built.

Where?

I work online with clients anywhere in the world via Microsoft Teams.  I also work in person in NW6.  My room in Queen’s Park is a 5 minute walk from Queen's Park station (Bakerloo/Lioness) and a 10 minute walk from Brondesbury Park station (Mildmay).  The rooms are wheelchair accessible.

About me

I came to therapy as a second career, after years running a business and working in community organising. I’ve sat with the messiness of real life, and I bring that with me.

I have been in therapy myself and, having had both good and bad experiences, I know how important it is to find the right fit.  Finding the right therapist is a process, and you’re entitled to take the time it requires.  I offer a free introductory call so you can get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 7 (Masters level equivalent) Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre, one of the longest established and leading Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling training institutions in Europe.  I am also a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and abide by their ethical framework.  I previously volunteered with ELOP, a charity offering therapy by and for LGBTQIA+ people. I continue to volunteer for a low cost therapy service.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
