location_on Oakham, Rutland, LE15 9QJ

About me

I work with both individuals and couples in a collaborative and compassionate way; enabling clients to delve deeply into concerns, embrace the natural processes of emotional healing, resolve conflicts, and identify effective strategies for fostering and maintaining positive change. I will offer guidance to help you navigate a path forward that aligns with your values and aspirations while building upon your inherent resources, strengths, and resilience.

I am qualified to work with adults as a -

  1. Relational and Integrative counsellor incorporating humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy.
  2. Bereavement counsellor working with grief and loss.

Additionally, I work as an emotionally focused therapist with couples.

My clinical experience, coupled with years of lived experience, demonstrates my ability to support clients who come to resolve their distress. But I would also like to point out that while counselling can be a very beneficial, rewarding and healing, additionally it can be challenging and push your experiences of emotional discomfort. However, I will be here for you to offer a safe, secure, non-judgemental and warm environment where you can explore feelings, emotions, vulnerabilities, goals, achievements and much much more.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

While working with individuals, I am a relational integrative counsellor, meaning I integrate the three main approaches; Humanistic (person centred with an emphasis on personal growth), Psychodynamic (discovering unconscious processes and the importance of past, particularly early childhood) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (problem solving).

As a bereavement counsellor, my own personal lived experiences of loss and grief allow me to empathise and enable my clients a space to explore their feelings and to be heard and accepted. If you feel you are struggling and unable to function due to loss and grief, together we can explore ways to help you through the challenging times and head towards a journey of acceptance and healing.

Some of the topics we can explore include -

  1. Emotions and managing emotional pain
  2. Who am I and changes to my identity
  3. Relationships and other expectations
  4. Memories and living with reminders
  5. Fear and the future

Additionally, I offer Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFCT); an evidenced based approach to psychotherapy. Unlike other couple therapies that focus on how to argue better and tackle ways to communicate, EFCT is rooted in the science of emotions and attachment and will help couples identify and transform the negative interaction patterns that create distress in relationships.

During therapy, couples will learn how to foster a secure attachment bond, enabling clients to respond to themselves and their partners in healthier, more constructive ways.

I trained in New Zealand and qualified with a Bachelor of Health Science in counselling, working for two organisations as an Integrative, psychodynamic and bereavement counsellor before returning to the UK. Drawing upon my counselling expertise and a wealth of life experiences, I am committed to providing a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment that supports individuals through their journey of healing.
