About me

Needing help with anxiety, stress, depression, burnout, big life changes, finding purpose or juggling family and work commitments? I can help you work out what’s happening and find a way to feel better. With empathy and understanding, I know how to listen to find out what’s really going on and what you can do about it.

I can blend person-centred counselling, mindfulness, CBT, solution-focused brief therapy and coaching/mentoring to help with whatever you are struggling with or want to achieve. My approach is geared around what you need or want, rather than a fixed technique. I am a trauma-informed practitioner with particular knowledge of:

  • Men’s mental health and wellbeing
  • Complex trauma (CPTSD)
  • Neurodiversity (I am a neuro-affirming practitioner with understanding of autism, ADD, ADHD, synaesthesia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia)
  • Childhood issues affecting us as adults such as childhood emotional neglect, abuse, bullying, parental estrangement and care leavers
  • Major life transitions and how to navigate them, e.g. relationships, health issues, living arrangements and career/job changes
  • Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP)
  • Empaths
  • Gifted Adults.

Having built a successful corporate career and then self-employed business, I also have specific understanding of work and employment issues and things created by them.

With couples my focus will be on the relationship between you and your partner. Often the problem is about communication and understanding. I can help you find ways of communicating more effectively to help you live more harmoniously with each other regardless of whether you live together or are in a relationship, or separating but need it to remain calm and amicable.

Many people come to counselling thinking there is something wrong with them, or that they are broken and need fixing. But believing it doesn’t make it true. Instead we are more likely to be struggling to cope with the actions of other people, or find it difficult to fit in. There might be some additional skills we can benefit from, but often it’s a case of learning our strengths and how to live from them.

We are not usually taught how to regulate our emotions or communicate effectively. The effects of this are often seen in our relationships with other people, whether intimate partners, family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues. The way we have been treated may create low self-esteem or critical self-talk but we can look at this and find more effective ways of living, thus generating more fulfilment and contentment in life.

Has anyone ever taken the time to really help you know yourself and see what’s right about you, rather than what’s ‘wrong’? I will.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Gifted Adults, Highly Sensitive Persons, Empaths, CPTSD, life transitions. I am also an Accredited Sight Loss Counsellor for the Royal National Institute for the Blind and can thus help with counselling for sight loss and visual impairment.

Existential therapy can help when you are struggling with finding meaning in life and trying to find a way forward. This may also be connected to spiritual, religious, medical or energetic factors and I welcome these in discussions.

Narrative therapy can be really useful in helping you to understand your life and why it has turned out the way it has. Greater understanding can lead to a way forward.
