About me

About me

Hi, I am Jack (www.eryritherapy.com), a trauma-specialised psychotherapist based in the beautiful mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia). I work with the whole spectrum of the human experience.

I am particularly interested in overcoming and integrating single-event and complex trauma, managing anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, managing difficult emotions, gender-based violence, healthy masculinity, finding purpose in life, working with death anxiety and grief.

Note: Jack is also fully certified in the Rewind Technique (https://www.iartt.com/the-rewind/). A highly effective, short-term trauma treatment that has the potential to dramatically improve trauma symptoms (flashbacks, anxiety, body tension, nightmares, insomnia, etc) in just a few sessions.

My Approach

First and foremost, I am curious and non-judgmental. I work on the premise that we have no bad parts, but we can become terribly unbalanced, which can cause a huge amount of suffering. By removing judgment and prioritising curiosity, we can explore and work with all of you. If you have not experienced this before, it can be incredibly validating and releasing to be properly seen, and from this, deep and profound change can happen (not just surface-level changes to behaviour or habits).

I use a combination of approaches, but always work holistically - your psyche, behaviours, past, values, physical health, social connections, work, and passions all make up who you are. Your mental health doesn't exist separately from the rest of your life, so while we will work with your inner experience, we will also focus on how your inner experience interacts with the other parts of your life, such as relationships, work and things that bring you joy.

Safety, Processing and Purpose

The brain and the body are incredible things. They have powerful hidden processes constructed by millennia of psychological evolution and informed by past events, trauma, fears, old relationships and a never-ending quest for safety and security. Unfortunately, in the modern world, these processes can sometimes go awry and stop serving us, even actively damaging us in their misfiring search for safety and security. We will work with the nervous system, on a somatic, emotional, relational and rational level to help you reclaim your power and autonomy and to feel safer and secure in your own body.

Trauma fractures, it can separate us from ourselves physically, emotionally and in terms of our own history. We exile parts of ourselves that are too painful or uncomfortable to face and hold. While this may ease the discomfort in the short term, we feel incomplete, and safety can feel temporary or precarious. We often have parts of us that feel in conflict, for example, one part wants to be ambitious and go for a promotion, but another part wants to hide and nest and is scared of being exposed. Or one part craves security and partnership, and another part wants freedom and adventure. Or perhaps a part of you feels it must be perfect and work relentlessly in order to be loved, yet other parts of you are exhausted and deeply unhappy. Our work together will involve working compassionately with these conflicting parts, hearing them out and working towards a greater sense of inner unity and peace - it can be exhausting to be in conflict with ourselves.

Our work will help your mind and your body find that sense of safety and security again. Once we have that equilibrium, we can work towards a more meaningful life driven by purpose, values and intention.

The details

I am NCPS accredited and a BACP member. I have an MSc in Counselling (Dist and award-winning). I have also completed training in CBT, Psychodynamic, Person Centred Therapy, ACT and Polyvagal theory. I have recently undergone training in somatic therapy and internal family systems - I am integrating these incredible approaches into my trauma work to further the holistic, whole-person approach I am so passionate about.

I am a kind, competent and generous presence in the therapy room. My therapy room is in Gwynedd, North Wales or we can work online. The relationship is at the core of all good therapy work. A relationship is built over time, with trust and consistency, but it is also important that you feel like working with me is the right choice for you.

Please get in touch for a free 20-minute chat/consultation to see if this is the right fit for you.

Testimonials

"Working with Jack, you cannot fail to learn and thrive. He is warm, gentle, calm and a facilitator of growth and change. Meeting Jack has been a privilege from day one and I cannot commend him enough. His style of therapy, patience, and insights and demeanour ensure effective and collaborative work, which brings safe, yet powerful change in the short and long term. If you have the opportunity to work with this remarkable man, I urge you to take this opportunity. He will guide you to where you need to go in the next step of your journey."

"Jack worked with an extremely complex caseload, with a wide range of
presenting issues. Many of these clients had confirmed diagnoses of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, complex PTSD, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorders. With each of these individuals Jack was successful in building a safe therapeutic relationship, and working with them beyond their medical classifications, but on a personal level with their story. As his Clinical Supervisor at the time I found Jack to be a very reflective practitioner who was a keen advocate for post-traumatic growth, encouraging his clients to embrace their vulnerability in order to work effectively with their loss."
