About me

Work, relationships, family, grief, kids, isolation - there are many things that can be sources of difficulty in life. Talking about what you are going through can be a crucial turning point in coping with these difficulties.

My goal is to establish a secure, confidential relationship with you to help you understand what it is that you are feeling and why you're feeling this way. This might involve looking to the past, for example at significant relationships in your childhood. But it may equally involve more present questions around desire, meaningfulness, disillusionment, and purpose.

Enacting change in life isn't easy, but it's a worthwhile endeavour. I will seek to use my experience and training to help you do this.

A bit of background on me:

My desire to find impactful, lasting improvements in my life and others led to me first training in existential psychotherapy. An understanding that each person is unique and must be treated uniquely in therapy inspired me to expand my training into integrative psychotherapy, which means that I am trained in different psychotherapy techniques and will seek to adapt therapy to the needs of the person I am working with. This broader framework, underpinned by existential principles (that we are free, that we can change, that life can be hard but we can gain back control of it) has helped me help others in a more personal, focused, and impactful way.

Prior to setting up a private psychotherapy practice, I worked for two years within an NHS mental health trust and for two years at an IAPT therapy service in North London.

In my previous life, I worked for a number of technology startups, with a particular focus on sports technologies.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I typically work with no pre-determined end date to therapy, preferring instead to review the work at regular intervals. You are, of course, free to end therapy whenever you feel like it, though if we have been seeing each other for some time I will recommend an 'ending' session to reflect on the progress and consider future coping strategies.
