About me

You might be facing challenges in your life, or a general feeling that things haven’t been quite right for a while, know that taking the first step towards seeking help is incredibly courageous and often the most difficult part. I am here to help  and guide you through your therapeutic journey, and to offer you an opportunity to find hope, gain clarity from difficult experiences, and transform your understanding of yourself, others, and the world. Whatever you’re going through, I’m here to listen and support you in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself. Together, we can explore meaningful ways to bring about positive change.

My name is Ilias. I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist with extensive experience in assisting individuals with a wide range of issues. You can trust that I bring not only professional expertise but also personal experience from my own therapy and supervision, which fuels my commitment to providing therapeutic support that I truly understand. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, loss, life transitions, or generally feeling stuck, I’m here to help. Whether you’re new to therapy or have previous experience, I assure you that I will offer support and guidance tailored to your unique needs and situation. My goal is to create a compassionate and safe environment where you can explore your unconscious mind and reflect on its profound impact on your self, your relationships, and your overall sense of being.

A bit about my approach
My approach is centred around understanding the deep-rooted patterns and emotional responses that you may be unaware of, yet they may significantly impact your daily life. Together, we will work to uncover these unconscious processes, offering you the chance to gain insight and develop healthier ways of engaging with yourself and those around you. By nurturing a supportive therapeutic relationship, you will be encouraged to express yourself freely and work through those areas of your life where you feel most challenged. This process of self-discovery and healing can pave the way for meaningful change and a more fulfilling life.

I bring an open mind
My experience brings an open mind, not a “One-Size-Fits-All” approach. Therapy is not just about understanding, it is also about creating a space where you can safely challenge aspects of yourself, with the aim of gaining a deeper knowledge about what makes you who you are. In our sessions, we will explore your interactions and experiences with others, as well as moments from how you experience yourself in therapy. We will examine various aspects of your identity to gain insight into your personality, resolve internal conflicts, and foster a healing process and development without judgment. I have a wealth of experience working with people of LGBTQ+ and racially diverse identities and am here to help you explore how these intersectional parts of yourself might have influenced your journey in life.

How I work
Sessions are 50 minutes long and I will see you on a weekly, at the same time every week. I offer long term sessions, long-term face-to-face work, online therapy, time-limited. Together we will work in deciding the best plan for your therapy, based on your goals and needs.

It all starts with an initial consultation (aka. first session), where we will discuss your needs, goals, and any concerns you may have. Our first session will provide you with a clear understanding of my methods, what you can expect from me, and what is expected of you.

Finally, I have helped people with a wide range of issues, such as anxiety and depression, trauma and abuse, relationship challenges, suicidal thoughts, alcohol and drug use, self-esteem and confidence, and significant life transitions, as well as more complex needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

It can be a daunting prospect to find a therapist who feels like a good fit, for that reason I offer a free 15 minute telephone call to briefly discuss your needs and goals and help you decide if I am the right therapist for you. At end of our call together, we will discuss about arranging a first session together.

First Session (aka. Initial Consultation)

It is normal to feel anxious about our first meeting. I am here to help you with whatever you might be struggling with. I would like you to feel assured that our first session will be an opportunity to explore things in a relaxing way. The aim of a first session is so we can understand the issue, and you can experience how therapy might work and ask any questions you might have.

Why do we have to have an Initial Consultation?

It is unhelpful to commit to any form of therapy without a general assessment first. My work therefore always begins with a thorough assessment to determine the nature of the problem, the most appropriate intervention and whether I would be the right person to help with this problem. The experience of the assessment should give you an idea of how I work, what is expected of you and what you can expect of me.

Frequency of therapy

We will meet once a week at a specific day and time reserved just for you, though you may wish to increase up to twice weekly in order to work at a deeper level.

Commitment required and cancellation policy

Clients who benefit the most from therapy attend every week. There are many different styles of therapy that may be effective, and it is important that you find the right fit for you. I offer depth work, which is most effective with regular sessions. Therefore, I require a commitment from clients to attend weekly therapy. My Cancellation policy will be discussed in detail at our initial meeting.
