About me

Do you need help to deal with stress?
Are things getting on top of you, so that your day to day living is a struggle, and your relationships with others are strained?
Do you feel like past, or current, events are effecting how you cope with life today?
I help people feel more confidence in their relationships by identifying the hurdles that are holding them back.
I help people to find peace of mind by managing their anxiety or low mood.
I support people through their bereavement to enable them to enjoy life again.
Let me help you to make sense of your difficulties, so that you can connect more positively with your loved ones and the world.

I offer an opportunity for you to explore your concerns in a caring, confidential and trusting atmosphere in my quiet, discreet consulting room in a village near Boroughbridge. I am committed to working with the individual and their specific needs, and offer a relationship based on empathy, non-judgement and honesty. I have extensive experience (both short and long-term) of working with clients with a wide range of issues.

In the light of these extraordinary times where we are slowly emerging from this lockdown, I can help you to find ways to manage the effects of this strain.  We can work together on developing your resources to get through the stress, anxiety and/or depression.  You do not have to face this situation alone.  I offer counselling by phone, virtual face to face, and I also have the flexibility to meet with you face to face (if you would like this), following social distancing and hygiene guidelines.

Training, qualifications & experience

BACP Accredited Counsellor (2013); Grad Dip in Counselling (2010); Cert in Counselling (2008)

As well as working with adult clients in private counselling practice, I also provide counselling for staff at NHS York and Scarborough Trust, and at the British Library in Boston Spa.  I have also worked as a volunteer counsellor for ten year at Talking Spaces Counselling Service and Just B, a bereavement service in Harrogate. Previous to counselling I was a Registered Mental Health Nurse, and so have a strong background in working with mental health issues.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have training and experience of working with those who have suffered from trauma.

I have training and experience in working with survivors of child sexual abuse and bereavement work; in addition, in relation to guilt and shame and in being bereaved through loss of a significant other who has taken their own life.

Further information

I offer a robust, adventurous practice influenced by trust in my instinct and experience.

Key details

Though there are four steps to gain access to the house (which is why I have said that the property is not wheelchair accessible), my practice room is on the ground floor and easily accessible once in the house.
