About me

I have many years of experience working individually with adults as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist (Tavistock trained) in NHS, charity and private practice settings. I work with clients with wide-ranging issues, from anxiety, depression and emotional disturbance, through to long-standing issues of severe and enduring trauma.

I understand it can take considerable courage to entrust your inner difficulties with someone. I embody warmth, empathy, containment and a carefully attuned presence. Please do get in touch for an initial complimentary conversation to see how I can help and support you with your therapeutic journey. I work in person from my consulting room in the Lanes in Brighton, and online worldwide.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifying in 2009 at the University of Birmingham, I trained and worked for several years in NHS Psychotherapy Services in Warwick and then later at the Tavistock Clinic in London, part of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which has an unrivalled reputation as an internationally regarded centre of excellence in psychoanalytic training which specialised in working in a modern, multi-cultural context. There I completed a further rigorous BPC accredited professional clinical Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training, including an infant observation and intensive personal psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

My Approach - Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Our early relationships and environments can often lead us to over-identify with and internalise the projections, expectations, and demands of others. Therapy offers a space and time for you to get to know and become reacquainted with your internal world. Over time, the therapeutic process may not only illuminate your conscious, but your unconscious beliefs, emotions, and narratives which may be contributing to your inner conflict and difficulties. It can give you a deeper understanding and connection with a more authentic sense of who you are, in the here and now, and how you relate to the world. It may not only alleviate the symptoms that are troubling you, but it may also help you to make deep seated changes to your sense of agency, personality, and development.

Expertise in Trauma-Informed Therapy - Energy Psychotherapy

I have a particular interest in trauma and keep abreast of current thinking, treatments and therapeutic advancements. I can also integrate Energy Psychotherapy methods into my practice, a specialised trauma-informed approach. It is a gentle, yet effective treatment that can ground and regulate the nervous system, alleviate, unblock and clear symptoms of anxiety, stress, trauma, and somatic symptoms that are held deeply in the Body-Mind energy system.

I am fully qualified and accredited to practice Energy Psychotherapy, completing a post-qualification core clinical training with certification, 'Transforming Trauma', with Energy Psychotherapy Training (Founded by Dr Phil Mollon, Psychoanalyst, Clinical Psychologist and Energy Psychotherapist and Ruthie Smith, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Energy Psychotherapist) - a rigorous 18 month training which enhanced and enriched my practice to work safely with trauma.

Energy Psychotherapy involves working with the acupoint meridians using, Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy, (PEP), Acupoint tapping, (EFT), energy centre clearing, (through the chakras), Tapping on the Inner Child, (Matrix Reimprinting), Ask and Receive, and Breathwork and Intention amongst other methods. Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

My standard fee for Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is £80.00 for a 50 minute session.  Initial consultations are charged at the same rate.

For Energy Psychotherapy sessions I charge £80 for 50 minutes, £95 for 60 minutes and £125 for 75 minutes.

To enable a strong therapeutic relationship to develop, consistency and continuity are very important.  We would aim to meet at the same time for 50 minutes plus at a minimum frequency of once a week.

It can often be helpful to increase the frequency of your weekly sessions which allows more time and a deeper exploration to take place. I tend to work on a long term, open ended basis.
