Children, Young Person and Adult Counsellor (MBACP)

About me

My name is Hannah Norman. I am an Integrative Counsellor based in West Somerset, providing support to children, young people and adults across the UK. I currently offer accessible individual sessions online and via telephone, with in-person sessions available in Minehead and Wheddon Cross.

Reaching out for counselling can be a big step, and I understand that asking for support is not easy. My hope is to offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can bring your whole self. So together, we can gently explore whatever is troubling you at your own pace, working collaboratively to explore your experiences, help you gain greater insight, and support you in finding ways forward that feel right for you.

I work within a pluralistic framework, which means I tailor every session to your individual needs by integrating a variety of evidence-based approaches. Depending on what you need, we might use CBT or solution-focused techniques for practical coping strategies, or person-centred and Gestalt approaches to explore deeper feelings. I also incorporate mindfulness and Polyvagal Theory to help regulate the nervous system, alongside compassion-focused therapy and transactional analysis to help change negative thought patterns.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a First-Class Honours degree in BA (Hons) Counselling and Therapeutic Practice from the University of South Wales, and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My journey as a counsellor has allowed me to work with a diverse range of people in various settings. I have significant experience supporting clients through NHS referrals and Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), as well as working with children and young people in schools. Additionally, before training as a counsellor, I worked as a childcare practitioner in a range of settings, supporting children and young people aged 0–16.

I am committed to continual professional development, which I maintain by attending regular training sessions and webinars, engaging with current and relevant literature, and participating in monthly supervision.

Additionally, I recognise that for many people, faith and spirituality are central to their identity and wellbeing. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can bring any spiritual or religious beliefs into the room to be explored and respected. And for clients specifically seeking a Christian Counsellor, I have undertaken additional training with Waverley Abbey College to integrate Christian faith with therapeutic practice. This is available upon request, but entirely optional.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Where attending one of my offices or using a telephone or video call is not possible or appropriate, home visits within the local area can be arranged.
