About me

Therapy clichés run deep - cushions, incense and the kind of passive experience that makes some people very uncomfortable. If you’ve considered therapy before and thought, "I don’t see myself there," you’re in good company. I founded Shared Mile on a simple premise: in order to properly understand someone, you must walk a mile in their shoes. My background in law, politics and running my own business gives me a genuine appreciation of the challenges of real life. Retraining as a therapist after a varied career has gifted me a broad perspective and an open mind. I avoid the clichés because I've seen them from both sides.

There's no rigidity here. We work together on your terms - whether that’s focusing on an immediate concern or exploring how life could be more fulfilling, balanced and joyful. Good therapy is based on a strong, respectful relationship. Commitment from both of us to create a no-nonsense space full of honesty and free from judgement.

If you're considering therapy for the first time, or are returning after being burned in the past, I encourage you to get in touch for a free, no-commitment introductory chat. Before reaching out, it's worth taking a look at my website to read more about my background, fee structure, and approach. This time, therapy really might be for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

All my training and experience combine to allow me to fully appreciate your situation in a way that's unusual in counselling.

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (accredited by the CPCAB) and have passed the BACP Certificate of Proficiency. I also have Masters degrees in law and in philosophy (with a specialism in consciousness and the mind). But beyond that, I've worked in mental wellbeing for a decade, producing programmes for ASICS on movement and the mind, working on large-scale academic trials, and have written on mental health for the online platform Kooth.

I've also worked for an international law firm in London, run my own retail business and been a consultant for organisations like the Financial Ombudsman. Plus, I've stood in a general election and volunteered with refugees in Calais. All of which goes to say that I have a broad hinterland which informs my therapy work and gives me a depth of knowledge and experience to help better understand you, your life and the challenges you face.
