About me
Hello. I am a kind and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working from spacious and comfortable premises in Marple, face to face, on-line and by phone. I offer long or short term counselling to people over the age of sixteen.
As a person-centred practitioner I respect you as the expert in your own life, free to find your own truth and follow your own path. I enjoy the fact that change when it comes often has the power to surprise me.
My role is to create a space that feels safe enough for you to explore your thoughts and feelings deeply, feel heard and start to heal.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am trained to MSc level in person-centred and experiential psychotherapy and am accredited with the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists. This ensures I have a high level of training and experience and that I remain updated in my practice.
As well as my private practice I have counselled for MIND the mental health charity and have provided bereavement counselling for Macmillan. I continue to work for a charity offering counselling to those with low or no income.
Before becoming a therapist I worked as a nurse and midwife. I learnt to appreciate the strength people could find when encountering their most extreme emotions and how to be with people at these times.
I have worked as a specialist midwife in mental health and now have a speciality in mental health problems around pregnancy, birth and parenting. Please see my website for more details.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
