About me

I am Dr Gideon Bakare. I understand that life can present challenges that leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about the future. Whether you are facing relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, low self-esteem, spirituality, or major life transitions, you do not have to navigate these experiences alone.

I provide a warm, confidential, and non-judgemental therapeutic environment where you can feel safe to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace. My aim is to help you gain greater self-awareness, strengthen emotional resilience, and develop practical strategies that support meaningful and lasting change.

As an experienced integrative counsellor, I believe that every individual is unique. There is no single therapeutic approach that meets everyone's needs. By drawing on a range of evidence-based counselling models and psychological theories, I tailor therapy to suit your personality, circumstances, strengths, and therapeutic goals. Our work together is collaborative, respectful, and focused on helping you move towards a healthier and more fulfilling life.

With many years of experience working with individuals and couples, I have developed a deep understanding of the complexities of relationships, and the challenges people encounter throughout different stages of life. I offer specialist support for couples experiencing communication difficulties, conflict, loss of trust, emotional distance, intimacy concerns, family pressures, and life transitions. My role is not to take sides but to create a balanced and supportive space where both partners can be heard, understood, and empowered to rebuild connection, strengthen communication, and develop healthier ways of relating to one another.

In addition to my counselling practice, I am an experienced Counselling Supervisor, providing professional supervision for counsellors, psychotherapists, trainees, and other helping professionals. I offer a reflective, collaborative, and ethically grounded supervisory relationship that encourages professional growth, critical thinking, self-awareness, and safe clinical practice. Whether you are newly qualified or an experienced practitioner, supervision is tailored to support your development, enhance your confidence, and promote the highest standards of client care.

My practice is founded on compassion, integrity, respect, and a genuine commitment to supporting the wellbeing of every client. I value diversity and welcome individuals and couples from all backgrounds, cultures, faiths, and walks of life. I strive to create an inclusive environment where every person feels respected, accepted, and understood.

Seeking support is a courageous first step. Whether you are looking for counselling to help overcome life's challenges, strengthen your relationships, or professional supervision to support your clinical practice, I would be honoured to work alongside you.

Together, we can create a path towards healing, resilience, growth, and lasting positive change.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
