About me
My work integrates person-centred psychotherapy with body-aware and trauma-informed practice. I work with individuals, couples and athletes experiencing anxiety, burnout, complex trauma, emotional overwhelm, bereavement, identity difficulties and relational challenges.
I offer an exploratory space for individuals and couples who feel hopeless, helpless or at a loss. I provide warm and gentle therapy to anyone experiencing distress, from anxiety and depression, to trauma and abuse. I aim to hold you securely and buttress you strongly so that you can examine things that are frightening or that seem impossible to deal with.
I have particular clinical experience with complex trauma (CPTSD), sexual abuse and bereavement.
My first career was as a competitive swimmer and so I particularly enjoy working with other athletes who are examining their relationship with their sport.
I practice as a person-centred counsellor. Our sessions can take the form of straightforward talking or we can use non-verbal mediums, such as drawing or painting, to explore your experience. I work in a trauma informed way and have experience working with traumatic bereavement. I am LGBTQIA+ allied and work affirmatively with explorations of gender and identity.
I am a qualified yoga instructor and currently training as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, therefore I have a keen interest in, and growing experience with, bodywork. I am also training as a NARM practitioner which is a non-directive and non-pathologising approach to working with complex/developmental trauma.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Post-Graduate Certificate and an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy, both from Keele University. I graduated in 2023 and have 4 years experience of working with adults and young people.
I am currently training in Somatic Experiencing (year 2 of 3 ) and NARM (year 1 of 2)
I completed a student placement at Treetops Hospice Derby and therefore have particular experience working with bereavement.
On my MSc I completed original research about the impact of sexual abuse on subsequent sexual experience.
In 2024 I completed a certificate in Couples Counselling with the National Counselling Training Institute and I trained in Person-Centred Expressive Arts Therapy with Creative Connections Cumbria.
I worked on an Employee Assistance Programme in 2024 and was trained in providing Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Following this I worked at Stratford-upon-Avon Hospice.
I have worked with clients from the LGBTQIA+ community since the beginning of my training in 2021.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
