About me

I am a Relate-trained therapist and have taught on the counselling degree for Worcester University for 14 years. I work with couples and individuals face-to-face specialising in relationships as well as personal self-awareness and development. I work in a person-centred way which allows maximum autonomy to my clients to be able to use their time each in his/her own way. If you are struggling with issues such as low self-worth and anxiety, or if you are troubled by events and relationships which happened in your past, I may be able to help. Our past history can powerfully affect our current lives often without our realising this; we can behave in ways that do not arise from our present life, but are an echoing influence from the past.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Relate certificate in couple-counselling,  a Cambridge degree in English as well as a Teaching Diploma ( DTLLS) from Warwick University. I specialised in working with older people in 2003 with the Psychologist for Older People at Hereford Hospital and was a tutor and lecturer on the Worcester University counselling degree at Hereford & Ludlow College from 2009-2023.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

From 1970-1983, I worked closely with patients of Charing Cross Hospital where a pioneering team of specialists were enabling people to change gender. I supported people to transition and successfully negotiate their new lives.

Additional information

Clients pay for their sessions in advance. When possible, I offer a reduced fee particularly for unwaged clients and trainee counselling students. I usually suggest booking several appointments in advance in order to secure the counselling room; if not needed these can be cancelled.  I need at least 24 hours notice of cancellations and changes in appointments.

Further information

I offer clients a confidential space and time to be able to safely explore themselves and their situations and worries without judging them. I can be flexible around times and frequency of appointments though usually recommend weekly, 50 minute sessions.
