About me

Hi, I’m Emma and welcome to my profile.

If you’re reading this it’s possible that you’re looking to make some changes to your life or have some specific problems that you’d like to talk through with someone. You might want to improve your mental/emotional well-being or you may feel overwhelmed by or stuck in your daily life.  Perhaps there are things from your past that are still impacting on you now?

Whatever your reason for reading my profile, counselling could be what you need.

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can share and talk openly about the issues that life is bringing to you.  This is a powerful way of gaining understanding and clarity - bringing you closer to where you want to be. Through talking you can gain a different perspective on your situation and increase your self-awareness. This can help you to gain a deeper connection with yourself, your thoughts, your emotions and your behaviours -leading to the change that you’re looking for.

Practice description

My training as an integrative counsellor allows me to be able to draw on a variety of counselling and psychological approaches to support you in making the progress forward you want to make.

At its very heart, my practice is humanistic and person-centred - meaning that I believe in the human potential putting you at the very core of what we do together. This way of working allows you to feel heard, accepted and valued. My approach is non-directive allowing you to be in control of where the sessions go. This approach means that I will not give you advice or tell you what to think, feel or do - your autonomy is essential in allowing you to access and achieve your potential for change. It is my belief that already within you is that potential and through working together with me you can move forward - living the life you want to live and being the person you want to be.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

My first session: Our first session together allows us the opportunity to meet face to face and for you to talk about the reasons for contacting me. It gives you the space to ask any questions you'd like the answers to or to voice any concerns that you'd like to share.  It's a chance for me to talk a bit more about how I work and go through some of the more practical aspects of our relationship.

Note: I aim to reply to all emails within 24 hours of an enquiry.  If you are waiting to hear back from me please check your Spam Folder.
