About me

Hello and welcome,

So, you have made it this far to exploring what counselling is all about. Let me give you some more information on my counselling style.

My name is Emma and I am a Pluralistic therapist, which means I work according to a school of therapy that is designed to allow therapists and clients to work together to find the best way of addressing clients’ concerns, using ideas and methods from various therapeutic theories, literature and the client’s life experience. The basic principle of pluralistic therapy is that different people are helped by different processes at different times, and the best way of deciding on how therapy should proceed is to engage the client in a process of shared decision-making.

I am based in the central Cwmbran area of South Wales with my own private dedicated counselling space for clients. I am an individual member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and listed on their accredited register of counsellors. I am also registered with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) so you can be assured your personal data is gathered and stored securely.

I maintain my professional practice by seeking out CPD (Continual Professional Development) as recommended by the BACP, and I have a full enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service). I also engage in regular supervision meetings as well as peer supervision groups to ensure I practice within the BACP ethical guidelines and seek professional guidance in my field of work.

I aim to work collaboratively with clients to find the best approach. There is no right or wrong, just teamwork. I work with adults and adolescents in a sensitive, genuine and non-judgemental way. Working pluralistically, I am able to offer many different therapeutic modalities, including Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Strength Based Therapy, Trauma, Bereavement Counselling, Mindfulness and Life Coaching to name but a few.

I can offer you a safe space to explore your thoughts, worries, and problems from the past, present or future. I provide a warm, empathetic, autonomous and personable therapeutic experience. I understand that every individual has a unique set of values, beliefs and circumstances surrounding their everyday lives. Therefore, I approach things holistically to encompass the intricate web that makes up a person's life.

My speciality is person-centred which is a client led approach. I go where you take me unless we agree otherwise. This is the beauty of Pluralistic Counselling, it can be whatever you want it to be, and I am happy to ride the counselling wave with you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
