About me

“We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.”
― Carl R. Rogers, On Becoming a Person

Hi, I'm Eleri. I run Black Dog Talking, a private counselling service, which offers a safe, confidential service where people can explore whatever is troubling or pre-occupying them.

If you are struggling with relationship difficulties, work problems, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, a lack of self-confidence or any other personal challenges, you may want to devote time to exploring your feelings and working out what you want to change and how. "Talking therapy" can bring long-term benefits.

The therapy takes place in a non-judgemental space, where you can truthfully acknowledge difficult feelings, be silent, cry, laugh, share, work things out. We will talk about whatever is on your mind. Really hearing yourself can bring new understanding, self-compassion and answers. Often the process is like the unravelling of a mystery - working out what is going on for you and why.

I work largely in a person-centred/ integrative way. I offer short-term (6-8 weeks) and longer-term counselling. Weekly sessions last 50 minutes.

It's important that you should have a counsellor you trust and feel comfortable with. It's also important that you should have a counsellor who feels they are qualified to deal with whatever it is that has brought you to counselling. To allow you to decide whether you would like to come to Black Dog Talking counselling, I offer an initial half hour telephone or online session free of charge.

I work largely online but have some limited availability for face-to-face work from counselling rooms in Coulsdon and Croydon.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
