About me
Hi, my name is Diane and I'm an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist
Whether it's past experiences you want to work through and understand, present issues, or anxiety about the future, I offer a safe, confidential space, free of judgement and full of kindness.
We'll work together and at your pace to explore the topics and events that are important to you.
As an Integrative Counsellor, I believe there is not one therapeutic approach that suits all clients in all situations. Instead, I take into account your unique experiences and circumstances and use elements of different approaches to help you work through your problems.
Areas of special interest
Working with young people and those who care for them.
For the past year, I have been working with young people who are experiencing various challenges effecting their mental health and adults who care for and support young people. Counselling can be a powerful tool for both teenagers and their supporters. For young people, it can provide a safe space to explore their feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. For adult caregivers and professionals, it can offer support in managing their own stress and understanding how best to help the young people in their lives.
Narcissistic Abuse
I have experience in, and a special interest in working with victims of narcissistic abuse. The emotional turmoil and isolation that come with this type of abuse can be incredibly challenging and confusing. Having a supportive, understanding professional to turn to can make a profound difference. It’s crucial to have someone who not only understands the unique dynamics of this type of abuse but also offers validation as individuals often face disbelief and minimization of their experiences. The emotional and psychological impacts of narcissistic abuse can be subtle but deeply damaging, and my approach aims to help rebuild the confidence and a sense of self that has been diminished by abusers.
I'm passionate about helping those that have experienced or are experiencing narcissistic abuse to pave a way forwards that is not dominated by their abuser. Whether that's a parent, romantic partner, work colleague or 'friend'. I offer a space to be heard, understood and most importantly believed.
Addiction
Those suffering with addiction are often stigmatised and can feel a deep sense of shame. This can worsen self esteem and perpetuate the cycle of addiction. I offer a confidential space to talk openly and honestly, free of judgement, and where inevitable relapses are not met with disappointment or anger, but with kindness and curiosity. By focusing on understanding, and support, I aim to address the root of many challenges faced by those struggling with addiction. I am committed to helping individuals connect with themselves and society in healthier ways and breaking their cycle of shame and self-destructive behaviour, prioritising long-term growth and healing, acknowledging that progress often involves setbacks.
Perimenopause
This can be an incredibly challenging time in a woman's life. The physical and mental symptom's seem to be endless and GP's are not always well informed. The intense impact perimenopause can have on a woman's life is often disregarded and woman are left to struggle on alone. Perimenopause is different for everyone. Its a time of change and transition and can be difficult to navigate alone. Having someone to talk to honestly about what you're going through can help alleviate anxiety and get you back in control of your own life.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information
Starting therapy can be daunting and scary. I offer a free 20 minute initial call where we can discuss what you're hoping for from counseling , any worries or concerns you may have, how I work, and whether I'm the right therapist for you.
I see clients face to face on Tuesdays from a therapy room in Sonning village and also work online so I can work with anyone within the UK for whom online counseling is preferable.
