About me
Hi, I’m Debbie. I support adults, children and young people who are struggling with how they are feeling — whether it’s anxiety, depression, low mood, stress at work or school, relationship problems, low self-esteem or past trauma that still hurts. I offer face‑to‑face counselling in Stevenage and online counselling across the UK. Whatever you’re facing, you don’t have to face it alone.
My practice for adults
Life doesn’t always go to plan. You may be:
- anxious or low in mood
disconnected from yourself or others - stressed at work or dealing with life changes
- struggling with relationships or relationship patterns that seem to repeat over and over.
- lacking in confidence or facing low self-esteem
- recovering from abuse or trauma.
I offer compassionate, integrative counselling that blends different approaches so each session is tailored to you. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings and any repeating patterns, and combine this with practical coping strategies to help you through the here and now. This can help you manage what’s happening now while also building lasting change, so you feel more connected, confident and able to live a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.
I offer both short‑term and long‑term counselling, with flexible availability to fit around your life.
My Practice for Children & Young People
Growing up isn’t always easy. Your child may be:
- feeling anxious or low in mood
stressed at school or about exams - struggling with friendships or social situations
- adjusting to change or difficult life events
- managing the challenges of neurodiversity (such as ADHD and autism).
These pressures can sometimes lead to burnout, low self-esteem, isolation, self‑harm or feelings that are hard to talk about. I offer a safe, creative and welcoming space where children and young people can feel seen, heard and supported, being given time to understand their feelings. Depending on age and preference, I use art or play therapy to help explore feelings in a way that feels right for them.
Where helpful, and with consent, I also work alongside parents, schools and other professionals to provide joined‑up support. This can help your child cope with what’s happening now while also building skills for lasting emotional wellbeing, so they can feel more confident, understood and able to thrive.
I offer both short‑term and long‑term counselling and can work flexibly to fit around school and home life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a BACP Accredited integrative counsellor working from a psychotherapeutic stance, with Master’s degrees in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychology. I bring over a decade’s experience supporting children, young people and adults — including work in infant, primary and secondary schools, SEN settings, higher education, crisis services, and NHS adult and bereavement counselling services.
I hold an enhanced DBS check and advanced safeguarding training, and I’m experienced in supporting a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, neurodivergence, relationship struggles, loss, abuse and trauma.
Trauma and its impact on mind and body is one of my clinical interests. Having navigated my own recovery after difficult times, I understand how daunting it can be to reach out. My aim is to make therapy feel safe and supported and change feel possible — so that together we can find a way forward.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
