About me

Hello, my name is Debbie. I am a qualified Couples and Individual counsellor and psychotherapist. I am a member of the  British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My key areas of experience are working with those dealing with life changing and life challenging experiences. Perhaps you have suffered a loss,  divorce, betrayal or a diagnosis - something that has perhaps left you feeling overwhelmed, lost with a sense of hopelessness and loss of control. Taking this first step takes courage no matter how short or long you wish your journey with me to be.

Working with Couples

After having looked at what has brought you both to counselling, for example, many couples can struggle with communication, understanding or loss of connection. Many couples have concerns and issues that may be causing conflict or troubling you. My aim would be to enable a safe environment to constructively talk to each no matter how difficult the topic. Building up trust and enabling you to open up and understand the other. This enables you both to have greater understanding and being able to look at difficult topics. I will be there to support you both whilst developing skills, enabling better communication and fundamentally a relationship that you both will know how you feel and can make choices where you both want to be, whether that be deciding how you would like to separate or stay together.

Working with Individuals

My aim is to start to understand what has brought you to seek counselling and agree with you on how best we can move forward together. Building trust enabling you to talk openly about how you truly feel, building your confidence and self-esteem as you start to feel completely seen and heard. This sets us on the path that enables you to make your own choices in life knowing you have made the right decisions for you.

This is a journey of empowerment and can provide life changing outcomes, it can be an emotionally difficult and challenging process. I’m here to listen and support your journey to find the answers you are looking for.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
