About me
I'm David, an integrative counsellor with a focus on person-centred values, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I offer a warm, non-judgemental space for adults experiencing anxiety, low mood or patterns that keep repeating. Much of my work is about identity: understanding who you are, gently, at your own pace.
My approach is integrative, with person-centred values at the heart of the therapeutic relationship: empathy, genuineness and unconditional respect for who you are and where you're starting from. I draw closely on ACT, a well-researched approach that focuses less on eliminating difficult thoughts and feelings, and more on developing the flexibility to relate to them differently, while building a life that still feels like yours.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress and relational difficulties, as well as those who feel stuck in patterns they can recognise but haven't yet found a way to shift. Much of my work centres on identity: how the story we carry about who we are can keep us responding in familiar ways, even when part of us wants something different. If what you bring would be better supported by a different kind of specialist, I'll say so honestly and help you find the right support.
There's no fixed structure to how we'll work. Some sessions may explore where a pattern began; others will stay with whatever is present for you that day. I won't rush you towards insight or push a technique before you're ready for it. I believe you're the person best placed to understand your own experience, and my role is to offer a steady, confidential space in which we can explore it together, without steering you towards a particular answer.
