About me
Hi, I’m Chris. I’m a psychotherapist working with adults in Portsmouth and online.
You may already understand where a pattern comes from and still find yourself repeating it. You might be very good at explaining how you feel without necessarily feeling what sits underneath it. I’m interested in the stories we carry and the ways earlier experiences can continue to shape how we see ourselves, other people and our relationships.
My style is active, direct and collaborative. I ask questions, offer reflections and notice when something has shifted. I work relationally, which means the relationship we build can become part of the therapy too.
I don’t see therapy as simply listening. We make sense of patterns together, with the understanding that you can’t always outthink your experiences and that some things need to be felt to be understood. My goal is for therapy to feel engaging, collaborative and real.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, with Transactional Analysis forming a core part of my approach.
My training includes:
- Level 6 Integrative Counselling
- Level 7 Integrative Psychotherapy
- Foundation Year in Transactional Analysis
- 600 hours of core counselling and psychotherapy training
- 160 hours of personal therapy undertaken as part of training
- Supervised clinical practice
- Ongoing clinical supervision and continuing professional development
My clinical experience includes:
- working within a university wellbeing service, supporting students and young adults with trauma, sexual abuse, academic pressure, disability, neurodivergence, identity and a range of emotional and relational difficulties
- providing psychotherapy through an LGBT+ organisation, working with clients around sexuality, gender identity, internalised homophobia, shame, relationships and the ongoing impact of lived experience, including work with clients after suicide attempts or during periods of significant suicidal distress
Across these settings, I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD and neurodivergence, alongside trauma, shame, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, self-harm and the impact of difficult early experiences.
A significant part of my experience has naturally centred around younger adults, men and LGBTQ+ clients. My practice is broader than this, and I work as a generalist therapist with adults across a wide range of experiences and difficulties.
I continue to undertake CPD, with particular interests in trauma, adverse childhood experiences and the ways early environments can shape adult emotional and relational patterns.
I am an NCPS Accredited Professional Registrant and work within the ethical and professional standards of my professional body.
