About me

Hello, my name is Billy and I am a qualified, experienced Counsellor that provides a compassionate, non-judgmental and theoretically informed approach to help you work through the difficulties you are facing. I can offer you a safe and  confidential environment as I work in my tranquil garden cabin.

Why counselling? People come to counselling for many different reasons, as life presents us with challenges both past and present.  What I can give you is time and space to explore what is troubling you. Whatever your reason for seeking counselling having someone help you explore the issues you are experiencing  can be the turning point you need.

So how do I work?

I will work at your pace, led by you. As our relationship strengthens and where appropriate I will challenge distorted beliefs and behaviours that prevent you from moving towards growth and personal outcomes.

I will not offer my opinion or promise to 'fix' your problems, as I strongly believe we all have the capacity to enable our own healing and development through the therapeutic process.

If you are new to counselling making this decision to seek professional help may feel scary however, be reassured this is a normal response. The first step is to contact me via email to arrange a suitable date to meet. We can discuss the issues you would like to explore and how I can support you. Please note this first session is an opportunity for both of us to see if we can work well together.

If you are returning to counselling It will be helpful to understand what your previous experience of counselling was like, what did or didn't work for you so we can establish how best I  can support you.

All sessions are 50 minutes long, face to face or online.

Training, qualifications & experience

BA (Hons) Degree in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, Middlesex University

I am trained as an Integrative Counsellor which means I  use a number of different therapeutic approaches that can be tailored to meet your needs, personality and preferences. This can include working creatively using various interventions or walk and talk therapy if you prefer to be outdoors, as my practice backs onto fields and woodland.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Practice. I attend regular supervision and engage in continued professional development (CPD) to ensure my knowledge is current and relevant to client needs.

My Experience:

As well as my private practice I have worked with adults and families in crisis for Adult Services. I work for a mental health charity where I facilitate groups and educate and promote wellbeing. I currently work for a charity based in a local Prison as a Counsellor and Programme facilitator educating clients on the complexities of addiction

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
